Now this is the Patricia Cornwell writing that is that is awesome

There was nothing I didn't like about this book. It moved, it had a point and there was more dialogue instead of the monotonous repetition. It kept my full attention. Kate Reading is excellent and she really brings the characters to life. The more recent books are nothing like this. Patricia get back to your original style. And don't forget to keep Kate Reading with you.

Interesting "read"!

Where does Black Notice rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

From 1-10 I'd give it an 8.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Marino, because the narrator did such an excellent job with his dialogue.

Which character – as performed by Kate Reading – was your favorite?

Marino. She did a terrific job with his accent and intonation.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I usually listen during my commute, but continued after I got home.

More Annoying than Engaging

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I will admit that I'm new to the Scarpetta series. This is my 3rd book and I can't believe how annoying Kay, Marino and Lucy are! My hope is that, as the series progresses, Kay finds her backbone and brain again, and Marino moves away from so much self-sabotage. I know the characters have to be interesting, and sometimes that means they may not be likeable, but I found myself hoping they all got killed in this one!

What do you think your next listen will be?

I'll try another Scarpetta book because two out of the three have been great, so far.

Excellent read.

Quite a suspenseful tale, this one. A decomposing body in a shipping container. A shot and badly beaten and bitten corner store clerk. Interpol. And in the midst of all of this, someone is trying to ruin Dr. Scarpetta’s reputation by hacking email and by conducting an online chat “Ask Dr. Scarpetta”. Another great offering from Cornwell. 4.5 stars.

C- Minus: Not Loving My First Scarpetta

This was my first Kay Scarpetta novel. Admittedly, my thoughts run mostly against the grain on this one -- I found the performance and writing okay, but the main character -- Kay Scarpetta -- left me cold. Where do I begin? Arrogant and self obsessed; totally dysfunctional when it comes to family (mother, sister, niece all trashed by her); as a doctor, lawyer and detective, she jumps to ill-formed conclusions at every turn; she has a male sidekick who is ill-mannered, uninformed and irrational; and in short, KS is just not a heroine for whom I could generate any empathy. In addition, the story had an abrupt, rushed ending that was very dissatisfying. "What happened???" I asked when the reader announced "The End."

I had already purchased the next KS novel before I read this one, so perhaps my views will be different after that experience. If not, this will be the end of my KS foray.

So much belligerence

The dialogue, as performed, is mostly a diatribe of angry aggression. Story is hidden beneath an awful lot of hostility.

Another great novel in the Scarpetta series!!!

I quite enjoyed this book. I love Dr Scarpetta and all the trouble that seems to find her.
These Scarpetta novels are the only books by Patricia Cornwell that I have read/listened to. I must say she is a brilliant novelist. I never listened to nor read any crime novels besides these and now I am addicted to them.
This book is definitely worth a credit in my opinion. There are a couple characters in here I could have done without. I wish poor Dr Scarpetta could find some decent employees. This is the second novel in which her own staff tries an set her up. I guess it makes for good reading though. I hope other readers enjoy this as much as I did.
Happy Listening!!!!
