Publisher's Summary

Can it ever get better? This is the question Benjamin Watson is asking. In a country aflame with the fallout from the racial divide - in which Ferguson, Charleston, and the Confederate flag dominate the national news, daily seeming to rip the wounds open ever wider - is there hope for honest and healing conversation? For finally coming to understand each other on issues that are ultimately about so much more than black and white?

An NFL tight end for the New Orleans Saints and a widely read and followed commentator on social media, Watson has taken the Internet by storm with his remarkable insights about some of the most sensitive and charged topics of our day. Now, in Under Our Skin, Watson draws from his own life, his family legacy, and his role as a father to sensitively and honestly examine both sides of the race debate and appeal to the power and possibility of faith as a step toward healing.

    "What's Under Our Skin?"

Watson shines a light on the true problem with racism. "Its not a skin problem, its a sin problem." This is powerful, thought provoking book looking at the issues of race in America. Thanks Ben, this book has not only helped me talk about race with kids and adults, more importantly it has allow me to get with God and deal with the racists views in my own heart.

Really clear and balanced perspective on race in our country. I wish I could think and write with such clarity as he does.

    "Relevant for Today"

This was wonderful. This a book all Christians should read to see how they can help with race in this country as well as acknowledge things we may have a hard time doing rather we are black, white, liberal, conservative or libertarian.

I thought it would hopefully more healing of current racial divisions. I am not sure it accomplished that in my opinion.

"the conversation we should be having about race"

This represents the conversation we should be having about today's racial issues! Just a fair look with no hypocrisy that invites all sides to see things from a perspective other than the comfortable one painted only by Our personal experiences. Some parts I'm thinking...I've been saying that for years and others give me insight into a experience I have never delt with.

    "for every American"

This read is full of honesty, helpful perspectives, truth, and history. Ben Watson who is virtually universally respected amongst his piers, family, and NFL opponents has offered a rare gift for us in this respectful, balanced and honest dialogue that filters this issue through a personal, not academic lens. Yet it is full of history, both his and Americas, and is not hateful towards white people.

As a white man i was educated and this helped this issue be more personal and led me to go to my black friends and ask for confirmation of some of Ben's perspectives. As an American I believe we all need to read books like these, and as a Human it dignifies our race and offers common ground for us all to stand on. I'm very thankful to have read it.

    You should read this book!

Enlightening. Regardless of the chasm between the two worlds. We all have a role to play.
