Publisher's Summary

One of the most anticipated autobiographies of this generation, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Total Recall is the candid story of one of the world's most remarkable actors, businessmen, and world leaders.

Born in the small city of Thal, Austria, in 1947, Arnold Schwarzenegger moved to Los Angeles at the age of 21. Within 10 years, he was a millionaire businessman. After 20 years, he was the world's biggest movie star. In 2003, he was elected governor of California and became a household name around the world.

Chronicling his embodiment of the American Dream, Total Recall covers Schwarzenegger's high-stakes journey to the United States, from creating the international bodybuilding industry out of the sands of Venice Beach, to breathing life into cinema's most iconic characters, and becoming one of the leading political figures of our time. Proud of his accomplishments and honest about his regrets, Schwarzenegger spares nothing in sharing his amazing story.

great book! and inspiring. I highly recommend it. The reader did a fine job, but it's still a letdown after Arnold's intro. message to Arnold, put in the work and read your whole book. set yourself apart as you did most of your life.

What an interesting guy...

What made the experience of listening to Total Recall the most enjoyable?

This man has had a really interesting life. Understanding some of his business dealings away from the hollywood showbiz was a really good insight to the man behind the showman. I also found it surprisingly inspirational and was glad to see that the person we saw in Pumping Iron was the showman and not the real man.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Total Recall?

Understanding that he got into property early on is his career and he didn't just rely on his the plan for hollywood stardom.

Have you listened to any of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Stephen Lang ’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No - why does amazon keep asking me this?!

Any additional comments?

A really good listening - shame Arnold didn't narrate the whole thing. I did buy Pumping Iron after this as I wanted to see what he talked about in his book and I watched it from a new perspective.

starting this book I'd never had imagined Arnold having such a background. I knew that he was a big movie star and governor of California but I am blown away by his determination vision and goal setting to be the best in the 3 fields he entered. such an inspiring example of believe in yourself and good things will happen.

good narration of such an inspiring story

really enjoyed listening to this book. As someone who has watched Arnie movie occasionally s I've grown up, this book is right up there as a book, an audiobook and as a biography. He led such a varied life that kept me interested throughout. one of those books you looked forward to being in the car to get hear the next part. Enjoyed the insights into his army, weightlifting, movie making and political days-so the whole book practically!

Great if you're an Arnold fan!

It's funny, interesting and well written. I think it would have been better to split in to 2 books, early years and later years as it can feel like a never ending story. But it's a must read for anyone interested in the bodybuilding scene, Arnold movies or his political career. My only negative is that it's not read by Arnold, the first chapter is but that's it. This autobiography would have been so much more powerful if he actually read it.

AWESOME book, what a story, what a life!

So loved this book, it was sad when I got to the end. What an inspiring story - and Arnold doesn't gloss over bad bits or mistakes. There is joy, there is tragedy and lots of hard work! The honesty is refreshing. He also has advice for everyone on how to achieve your dreams - and it's good advice. I think this book may be his greatest gift to the world as it will keep on giving to and inspiring others for generations to come. I didn't know too much about Arnold before, just that he had been a body builder and an actor and had this amazing physique. Now I feel like I know him and he's so much more than that and has done so much more than I ever imagined. He's the kind of guy I'd like to invite for dinner and have as a friend. Hasta la vista, baby - I sure hope you'll be back!

What an incredible life story!

I really enjoyed this!! It was amazing discovering how Arnold's mind works, and how he built himself into who the world knows him as today. Would have given it 5 stars, but I was t that into the politics side of things. That's purely personal choice though, as a whole it was wonderful! Defiantly a must!

A great biography

Arnold's biography focuses on the three defining points of his life: his bodybuilding career, his film career and his two terms as Governor of California. It also includeds his life as a child in Austria and his marriage and life with Maria Shriver.

I personally was only interested in the film portion of his life, but was pleasantly surprised at how interesting the bodybuilding was. I now have a new appreciation for the sport. Arnold's terms as Governor - which I expected to be the most boring portion of the book - were also fantastic to hear about.

The narration is solid. The first chapter is read by Arnold himself, who also adds the afterword. The rest of the book is read by Stephen Lang, who does a great job bringing Arnold's life story to the listener.

Overall, this is a book most people would enjoy. Schwarzenegger didn't just become successful in a heartbeat. He worked hard all his life and by his own admission, continues to push himself. It's well worth hearing the story from the pen of the man himself.
