Publisher's Summary

"Sean's story, beginning as a renegade, outlaw company and evolving to redefining the shoot video genre, is extremely fascinating. Who knew that the man asking the questions was as fascinating as his subject matter?" - Justin Barrasso, Sports Illustrated

"Kayfabe brings to life a world that once had its own version of ‘omerta’ in a fascinating, well written book that will intrigue long time fans, new fans, and just those who are hoping to take a peek behind the curtain of this unlikely cultural phenomenon." - Eric Bischoff, WCW President

"I worked in a business full of liars, cheaters, workers, con artists and of course...politicians. I can name maybe 3 people over the years that I 100% trusted, or even believed for that matter. Sean Oliver is one of those men. In reading Kayfabe, you can believe that 100% of this masterpiece is accurate - yes, even the parts about me. The most stand-up guy perhaps ever associated with the business of Pro Wrestling. You want truth - you'll find it right here." - Vince Russo, Former WWE/WCW Head Writer

If you thought the world of pro wrestling was wild, imagine what you haven’t seen on TV and in the ring. Add to that the backdrop of building a renegade production company, negotiating with impossible wrestling talent, and hosting groundbreaking, shoot-style programming, and you have the story of Sean Oliver.

Sean has seen industry-wide accolades for the company he co-founded and for which he serves as front man. But there are also the threats, stories of abuse, and moments of downright hilarity that you haven’t known...until now.

Watch the unpredictable and unconventional story through Sean’s eyes.

Great Listen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend adding this to your collection. In a weird business, some of the tales of setting up your own business are incredible.

Gives you a really good insight into a different part of the industry

I never really considered the logistics of the shoot before, which is weird because I don't even watch wrestling anymore and only listen to shoots. Really interesting and funny. And Sean Oliver does some pretty good impressions...

I was looking for more rasslin stories

Is there anything you would change about this book?

More stories about the rasslers and their escapades.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The author was the main character

What three words best describe Sean Oliver’s voice?

great presentation

Did Kayfabe: Stories You're Not Supposed to Hear from a Pro Wrestling Production Company Owner inspire you to do anything?

Not really

Any additional comments?

As a worker in the 80s and 90s I worked with many of the guys and knew those I never worked with. I was hoping to hear more stories about the boys. It was entertaining enough as I listened to the entire book in 2 sittings.

Excellent. Sean is truly an innovator.

It sucks that the shoot market is being watered down. Great read though! Thanks Sean!

Some Good Stuff

I love Wrestling but am more familiar with Kayfabe Commentaries as a concept than I am as a consumer of their products. In other words I was aware of them and what they did but am not a big consumer of shoot interviews although I have enjoyed those I have watched from other companies.

Still, I love wrestling and this is a book about wrestling so I was down to give it a listen. I really enjoyed some of the stories, a few were surprising but most weren't. I also really enjoyed Sean expounding on the business of providing content and some of the challenges that they face in our current climate.

I really enjoyed Sean's performance as well, it was both energetic and enthusiastic. The production could have been better as I counted at least 2 instances of lines being read multiple times.
There were a couple of other errors I noticed as well. Once, when speaking about the Mid South territory, it was referred to as Mid-Atlantic which was a different group. Also when meaning to say WCW once, it was instead ECW that was referenced.
However, these are minor errors that will go over the head of most listeners, I suspect. Even with their presence this was still a very enjoyable listen and I'm glad that it was both produced as an audiobook in the first place and narrated by Sean. Not enough books about wrestling make it to audio so I tend to appreciate those that do.

I suspect that those already in the Kayfabe Commentaries audience will appreciate this audiobook. Those looking to learn about some of their favorite wrestlers may want to consider giving it a listen as well. The book is accessible enough to fans of varying degrees of interest and wrestling knowledge.
