Publisher's Summary

With wry wit and poignant humor, Louie Anderson, New York Times best-selling author and three-time Emmy Award-winning comedian starring in Zach Galifianakis's Baskets, shares his journey of turning life's challenges into joy as well as the wisdom he's gained from his mother.

Louie Anderson has been channeling his beloved mom in his iconic stand-up comedy for decades - but she passed away before getting to see him reach new heights with his breakout role.

Hey Mom is Louie's way of catching Ora Zella Anderson up on everything that has been going on in his life, including his continued struggles with food and family, but also how so much has changed for the better. He also has plenty of laugh-out-loud stories about his incredibly resilient mother and his 10 siblings, as well as observations on the absurdities of life that only Louie Anderson could make.

Honest yet funny, Hey Mom is a loving tribute to Louie's mother and will surely inspire you to write a letter to your own mom.

I love Louie even more now

I've always loved Louie Anderson, I mean what's not to love? But after listening to his book where he writes letters to his mother whom he lost almost 30 years ago, I love him even more. The book is funny, profound, and at times, a bit sad. I certainly identify when he talks about his alcoholic father, and the mother who provided all of the love that he needed. I'm glad I got the audio book instead of reading it myself because it really comes to life listening to the author himself read aloud. Highly recommend! Now I need to go call my mom...

My story

I haved loved Louie since I first watched him do standup and fell more in love with him as Christine Baskets. Hey Mom felt like Louie was describing my family as I too grew up with an alcoholic father only thing is I still haven’t grown up and still carry scars of that childhood like Louie. My husband and I listened too it while driving 14 hours up and back to watch our daughter graduate from college and the audible book was thoroughly enjoyable and made a tedious drive seem to go by as we hung on everything Louie said . Here’s to all the strong women who grow strong kids! God bless you Louie! Love, June and yes it does truly get better❤️

Amazing...as expected!!!

I laughed and cried through the whole book. Louie has such a sweet outlook on life, and this genuinely altered how I, as a husband/father/son, respond to my surroundings.

Really enjoyed

I so looked forward to this book— I missed your New Year’s Eve show and sadly had to give away tickets as I suffering w/dreaded winter flu so when I heard about your book I got it on audible—
Love this book. Listened to it while gardening and avoiding my husbands demands to help him remove the shrubs.. told him I was listening to a book and commenced to complete my own gardens needs...
which were made so much more enjoyable by listening to Hey Mom!
Thought it was entertaining funny inspiring and down to earth...and made me interested in watching an episode of Baskets... which I had no interest in doing actually.. and guess what! I liked the show too. Wow!
Well....Back to Swinter in Minnesota that’s winter and spring rolled up into one here ... hurry up Louie and get out another book that I can enjoy while I shovel snow here in MN —

as we only get like two days of summer.. but you know that!

Beautiful and worth listening to over and over again.

I own both the hardcover and audio versions of this book. If you only know Louie Anderson for certain roles (e.g. Coming to America, Life with Louie, Baskets, or his stand up comedy), then prepare to be amazed by discovering Louie Anderson as an author. In this book, he tells funny and poignant stories about his mother and catching her up on his life these past three years. The reader's experience is heightened by the audio read by Mr. Anderson. His voice, so filled with emotion, allows the listener to truly experience his journey while writing this book. Outstanding job of conveying his thoughts, emotions, and his life lessons that he chose to share with the audience. Thank you Mr. Anderson for pouring your heart and soul into this book and for sharing your wisdom and mission to strengthen and improve family relationships everywhere. Bravo!

Heartwarming and Enjoyable

When my Gramma was alive she would call me and I’d sit on the phone for hours listening to her family stories/gossip and also lots about her childhood, growing up in Chicago, during the depression, with seven brothers & sisters and an alcoholic father. Her calls made me feel loved and important to her for sharing such intimate parts of her life.

Louie’s midwestern dialect and gift of gab made me feel like I was talking to my Gramma again. I didn’t want the book to end. Thank you for sharing, Louie!
