Publisher's summary

"Magnificent." (People Magazine)

The instant New York Times best seller: laugh-out-loud, deeply insightful, and emotion-filled essays from multitalented actress, comedian, podcaster, and writer Casey Wilson.

Casey Wilson has a lot on her mind and she isn’t afraid to share. In this dazzling collection, each essay skillfully constructed and brimming with emotion, she shares her thoughts on the joys and vagaries of modern-day womanhood and motherhood, introduces the not-quite-typical family that made her who she is, and persuasively argues that lowbrow pop culture is the perfect lens through which to examine human nature.

Whether she’s extolling the virtues of eating in bed, processing the humiliation over her father’s late in life perm, mourning her mother's passing, or revealing her patented method for keeping the mystery alive in a marriage, Casey is witty, candid, and full of poignant and funny surprises. Humorous dives into her obsessions and areas of personal expertise - self-help, nice guys, cool girls (not her) and how to receive visitors in the bath - are matched by touching meditations on female friendship, anger, grief, motherhood, and identity.

Reading The Wreckage of My Presence is like spending time with a close friend - a deeply passionate, full-tilt, joyous, excessive, compulsive, shameless, hungry-for-it-all, loyal, cheerleading friend. A friend who is ready for any big feelings that come her way - and isn’t afraid to embrace them.

Would have been 5 stars without the political commentary

Incredibly entertaining and perfectly narrated by the author. Would have been 5 stars if she had resisted the compulsory Trump bashing that is required of everyone in Hollywood

it's ok

I found some of this book annoying...kind of like listening to the Kardashian's talk...mostly vapid & annoying. I was hoping this book would get better but sadly, it was just ok. There were a few moments that were likable- when she talks about her children, husband & family but the rest just seemed self-serving & an opportunity to name drop. The worst part of this book is the baby talk part at the beginning...ugh. painful to listen to.

Laugh out loud funny

I’ve been listening to Casey for years on Bitch Sesssh and have been anticipating the release of this book. She has not disappointed! Wow! Laughing out loud. So grateful Casey did her own audiobook - could listen to her for hours which I am currently doing!

Near perfect

I’ve never written a review for a book before but felt compelled. This book might possibly be the most perfect blend of funny, heartfelt, engaging and endearing. I laughed out loud and teared up. All the feels! I was already a Casey Wilson fan to begin with, but I am even more so now.

Highly relatable

I think most women in their 30s will feel the same way. Funny and worth the listen!

wow the feels....

I absolutely love the book! I listen to it all the way through in the first time. I possibly couldn't have found a more perfect friend in my head than Casey I listen to her podcast and her book made me realize that we shared similar tragedies and milestones in our life other than acting I don't act. my favorite part actually was probably one of the saddest parts of the book when she apologizes to her mother for something simple but it just touched me. I actually loved listening to her read and tell her own story then inflexion in her voice made me feel the stories more I would highly recommend.

I am on my third listen

Truly a fantastic book. Love hearing the author tell it in her own voice. Only thing I want to listen to right now.

Absolutely loved!

It was vulnerable and honest and real. Casey went there in terms of her mother, her son, her career. Thank you for the vulnerability and truth.
