Publisher's Summary

Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update", before "Sarah Palin", Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV.

She has seen both of those dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've all suspected: you're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Includes special, never-before-solicited opinions on breastfeeding, princesses, Photoshop, the electoral process, and Italian rum cake!

Just random blabbing by Tina Fey

Really no context, story line, or anything of importance. HIGHLY disappointed. I was really looking forward to this book too, but half the time I couldn't even understand what she was talking about, or where the story was going, or relevancy for that matter.

Overrated and exhausting

Would you try another book from Tina Fey and/or Tina Fey?

Although funny in short doses (i.e. SNL skits) Tina's "schtick" and way of speaking/ punchline delivery gets tiresome and predictable after several hours of listening. If she had toned it down I might have been able to get through the book. As it was, I had to stop listening. Not sure why it got all the great reviews.

Crude

What disappointed you about Bossypants?

The humor in this book is a lot more crude than what you'd get on 30 Rock. Plenty of "F" words and female genitilia and monthly cycle jokes. Pretty gross actually.

What about Tina Fey’s performance did you like?

Tina is a great performer and that comes through in her reading of the book.

Any additional comments?

There is also a big emphasis on her feminist outlook on life.

This book is highly overated

What would have made Bossypants better?

A longer version so Tina did not have to sound like a non-stop talking doll. A loot of more laughs could be secured for all fans. This is not a memoir, but SNL on a sugar-rush.

Would you ever listen to anything by Tina Fey again?

Yes: On SNL or 30 rock

Would you be willing to try another one of Tina Fey’s performances?

On audiobook? No.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Just "Tina, I love you, but I thought this was a memoir?"

Any additional comments?

If you are a die-hard fan and can never get enough by her book. If you like a book where you cannot get a break from Fey trying to be funny,

I didn't get it

I know this book is highly rated, but after about 30 minutes I just put it down. I was waiting for a point, or some direction.
I guess it just isn't too my taste but I did not finish it.

Typical Celebrity Trash Book

What would have made Bossypants better?

If there were an actual story worth reading--that would be a start. I usually avoid celebrity novels, but I was in the mood for something funny, having read and listened to David Sedaris over and over again one too many times, and this did NOT fit the bill.

What was most disappointing about Tina Fey???s story?

This felt like someone handed Fey a book contract and a hefty advance, and then she had to come up with something to fill the pages with. Fey is an interesting and lovely woman, but a few hundred pages about her life is a bit much, at least as this book is written. The highlights could have been covered in a magazine article or two. Her humor is present, but it feels pretty forced at times. She is clearly more suited to writing for TV than in book form.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Tina Fey's reading of the book was pretty good. She has an appealing voice, and I love her work on 30 Rock so it reminded me of the show.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Bossypants?

I'd have cut most of the book.

Any additional comments?

There were certainly some funny moments, and I enjoyed getting some insight on Fey. The stories about her dad were fascinating. However, most of the book was totally unmemorable.

Love Tina, C minus book

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I gave it two stars because I am trying to be nice. I love Tina, her impression of Palin is perfect as has been her work on SNL and 30Rock. This just is not that good of a book. I would have expected a little more depth from a UVA grad and from all the positive reviews and the time spent on best seller list. The book is mostly banal and rarely that funny. Especially at the end when she agonizes about whether she wants to have a baby or not. I understand this is an interesting important dilemma for her and her husband, just not for the reader. Tina also should not have read her own book. Her voice trails off when she is adding a cynical aside at the end of a sentence and her other biting sarcasm does not build her image either. Save your credit.

I used to be a fan.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A narrative with more substance.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not sure.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Tina Fey?

No one could read her book better than she.

What character would you cut from Bossypants?

The stupid little internal voice

Any additional comments?

I really wanted to like this book more than I did

Super Funny but too crude and too much swearing

My wife and I started listening to this on our recent road trip and start laughing from the get go. Unfortunately, there was too much swearing and the humor was too crude. So we had to stop listening to it. It was a shame because she is very funny.

Tina Fey broke my new SUV

With 3124 on my new SUV's odometer, I was laughing so hard listening to Tina that I clipped a cement highway divider driving to work.

That's not the funny part.

I kept on laughing.. Tina Fey is like comedic Oxytocin.

Buy this book. Keep both hands on the wheel.
