Randidly Ghosthound threw down the gauntlet, and his closest supporters have taken it up. Soon, the two sides will clash in the Challenge of Donnyton.

As both make their preparations, the goals of the two are very different. Randidly wants to show how they cannot rest on their laurels, how under the System, there will always be one more monster, one more Calamity, one more "Creature" watching the development of their planet and plotting how to extract everything of value.

He witnessed the brutality of the Second Calamity on Tellus and does not want his own world to be so scarred.

Yet on the other side of the challenge, the people of Earth want to send a different message: Randidly Ghosthound, you do not need to carry this burden alone. Chasing his shadow, the people of Earth have grown strong.

In the wake of the challenge, Randidly will head into a Dungeon to train. There, he will discover clues of how ancient the struggle to escape the Calamities truly is.

And he will also unearth a darkness that can wound even the System itself...

I would immediately delete and remove all previous books. so tired of political nonsense, when I'm trying to relax. still not done with the book. I might change this or leave it up

That had better be the first and last time, I hear gendered language.

that the ghosthound didn't more power over his own soul in his soul skill. felt like he still should be God like inside his own soul.

the new direction of the story

This book spends a tremendous amount of time on the protracted multi stage battle with Donnyton. I try not to look at the length of these books once I start them, because I don’t want to know how close I am to the end. But it eventually began to feel like that was going to be the only thing that happened in this book, because it was taking so long. But then, even more happened.
We finally get back to Erickson steel, and the juvenile political machinations of zone one, which still can’t seem to understand the world that it exists in now. We meet some new side characters, and close out with a long dungeon run with a surprising twist in the tail.

I was hoping we would see more of Hank and Tatiana in this installment. We did get Tatiana, but Hank only did a brief cameo during the squads battle. Still, it’s nice to see he hasn’t been forgotten, and hopefully he will have a bigger role to play later.
Speaking of bigger roles to play: Helen has a lot of fun in this one, and I’m there for it. Though I do wish she would get a better handle on her anger issues. I thought perhaps leaving her home planet would help with that, but if it did, it’s pretty mild.

The narration is excellent as usual, although I think some voices of smaller characters have slipped from what they were in earlier books.

Overall this is some nice progression of the big picture, which by necessity has to sacrifice attention to some of the more immediate details of the world building. That’s OK, we get plenty of that in other places. Worth reading, though if you’re already reading the series I don’t need to tell you that.
