A young woman must navigate the dangers of a strange new world filled with magic and mystery in this imaginative and highly detailed LitRPG adventure.

When Alice Verianna went to sleep, she was just another teen from the Denver suburbs. She definitely didn't expect to be transported to a magical alternate dimension, inhabited by monsters and presided over by a mysterious System. Here, people resemble RPG characters and everyone has access to their own status screens.

Grappling with the mechanics of the elusive System isn't the only challenge Alice faces. It seems an underground organization known as the Society of Starry Eyes has taken a particular interest in other dimensions. If they find out about Alice, they will stop at nothing to hunt her down and forcibly extract from her the secrets of her world.

Now, in addition to pursuing her own scientific endeavors, as well as learning to harness the magic that surrounds her, Alice must determine the Society's ultimate intention—and how she ended up here in first place. Before it's too late . . .

The first volume of the hit LitRPG adventure series—with almost two million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

A Small Town in Southern Illvaria is similar to Mother of Learning Arc 1 written in a traditional LitRPG format. Like The Wandering Inn series, it does not follow a traditional LitRPG hack and slash, I'm OP. Instead you have a girl who goes to bed and wakes up in a new world in the middle of nowhere and must navigate everything. She studies the magic system, and you start to learn the underpinning of magic. I enjoyed every minute of it and look forward to book 2.

Surprisingly Good

What is magic?

Could the System be a God?

Let’s use the scientific method to find out.

If you enjoyed "The Wandering Inn," this audiobook offers a fresh take on the isekai LitRPG genre. While Alexandra Ryan's narration isn't quite on par with Andrea Parsneau's, it's still solid.
The story focuses on fewer characters than TWI, allowing for deeper exploration of the protagonist's journey.
The standout feature is its heavy emphasis on science, perfect for those who love seeing scientific problem-solving in a fantasy setting. It's an engaging listen for fans of the genre looking for something unique.

I did enjoy the the MC is consistent with the scientific mentality. its always frustrating when you have a MC thats supposed to be smart but is portrayed as otherwise.

I am interested in finding out more about this series. Am hoping this first book is just setting the foundation for the books to follow.

Very Entertaining

really enjoyed the story just had a few very very minor gripes. mostly it has to do with the measurement system at one point the main character questions why they use feet and inches and stuff and when she's asked about her own world's unit of measurement she mentions that the meter is based off the distance from the equator to the North Pole. while this used to be the case ever since 1983 it's been based on the speed of light in a vacuum. The main character should have known this but instead she explains the old system of measurement that existed before her lifetime.

really fun story but some science things are wrong

I created a drinking game early on in the book. Every time a character said, "however," I'd drink. let's say if I dedicated myself to that game I would need a new liver. Every other sentence starts with "however." I'm not exaggerating.

Anyway it was good until I hit 11 hours left. It wasn't going anywhere fast enough. Hearing pages of stats is fine when it's limited but this character has a stat for everything and we have to listen to it all the time. A whole chapter could be just stats. However. I got bored.

Dnf, however

The book in many ways is not your typical overpower character, but yeah she still unique enough to have some edge. Is one where the main motivation is the character wanting to know how the world of magic work. This is usually a hard topic to make exciting as often the fun part about magic is what it does, not the mechanics behind it. I think the main character curiosity and excitement can often overcome the fact that in many way the discovery of magic is the least interesting aspect. Also stats are annoying, with them having 5 classes and unlimited general skill, and the audiobook seem to not care to make the stat update not be bothersome.

There is an overarching plot, but it seem is more for the future abd not for this volume. I can see this in many way going the same direction as other book like "Beneath the Dragon eyemoon" and excited for more. But yeah they need to chill a bit with the stat but at least they stop looking at every available perk.

Contagious curiosity and excitement

The narrator was great infusing the different characters with enough unique vocals to distinguish them. This book doesn't really follow the normal structure and lacks a climax.

I personally enjoy world building but this one could be a bit dry when going over stats and levels. Sometimes spending upwards of 5 minutes getting through them all.

World building and stat heavy but enjoyable.

It was like listening to an isekai! Can’t wait to read the next one! Nice voice too.

Great story

Another story where the MC is a complete wuss. Woe is me, I had to defend myself from someone trying to kill me! I now have ptsd and hate myself.. blah blah blah stupid inane whining and complaining about how much of a pansy for chapter after chapter. You realize that the VAST majority of people who had to take the life of someone actively trying to kill them do NOT have an exostinsinsal crisis and freeze like cowards. You should and would be celebrating your survival you idiot, not puking over your poor emotions. Do you realize how people like this are seen and treated in a real fighting force? Certainly not how you portray it as those people are a danger to everyone around them, almost as much as the enemy. If you do not want your characters to be real fighters, stop writing them into those situations. If you are going to make them fighters, stop also making them wimps. Those two traits are NOT compatible in reality so stop trying to force it. I honestly start rooting for the bandit to kill the MC and loose all respect for the MC when you write them this way.

meh at best.
