Publisher's summary

A lone wolf cub struggling to survive mutates into a creature possessing unpredictable—even human—abilities in this grimdark fantasy adventure series.

Somewhere in the toxic Bone Pits, where mechanical nightmares roam, an emaciated and wounded young wolf clings to life. Wracked with pain, driven by instinct, it crawls across the subterranean landscape, avoiding the unnatural horrors that dwell there and seeking sustenance while fending off rats, insects, and other vermin stalking it as prey.

Then it encounters a deity who collects human souls and is astonished to discover a wolf, as its species has been extinct for centuries. The god spares the wolf, bestowing the wretched beast with the means to survive until it eventually acquires the power of heightened intelligence and the ability to alter its physiology, turning into a shapeshifting monstrosity.

Part of an adventuring party scouring the tunnels, the elf Emhreeil was injured and left for dead. Blind and with broken limbs, she suffers in unbearable agony, waiting for her body to quit—or for something to devour her. When the wolf finds Emhreeil, it pounces on the opportunity to learn human speech from the pitiful being incapable of protecting herself.

Now, Emhreeil is the wolf's de facto companion as it struggles to escape the Bone Pits, dragging her through the twisted labyrinth and fighting the vicious predators hiding in the shadows. And with every battle, the wolf evolves in self-awareness and cunning, mutating into a creature that nature never meant to breed . . .

Plenty going on, plenty of unanswered questions

I must commend the author. It would be too easy to hand the MC the world, to allow it's skills make everything easy. Sure it does appear that the MC is overpowered at times but then it gets it's ass kicked.

I like the mystery the author leaves about the world. I like the communication issues as it complicates things. I can't wait for the sequel.

Grimdark Monster Evolution

I tend to like monster evolution so I might be a tad biased but I found this book intriguing and innovative. It's major theme is pollution, waste, and loneliness. Being the last of his kind Fleabag tries to make his way in a world that seems determined to kill him with it's antipathy and exclusion, but survives, grows, and most importantly learns. I'm interested to see where the author takes the story in book 2.

very interesting getting to be inside the monsters head as it evolves. well thought out upgrades that a wolf would do for the reasons it was presented. love it.

Awesome book

It's a really great book very realistic didn't sugarcoat anything. I most love the companionship between her and her wolf. Hate the cliffhanger with no Book 2!!! Does anyone know if there will be a book 2? I looked and couldn't even find release date.

A dark dungeon crawl

Performance was excellent, story is unique and captivating. The wolf was portrayed as a little more obtuse than necessary but overall a very entertaining yet dark story.

Dogo MC is best boy

I didn't expect the story to be as dark as it was. I'm very happy to be wrong. Can't wait for the next book.

Engrossing LitRPG concept that is wonderfully done.

Following a beast as it levels, learns the systems, and develops ( in character study And RPG ways ) is quite entertaining. the writing is good at making you feel like the main character is actually learning, evolving, and levelling. I'm anxious to see pre-order for the next book in the series pop up because currently my biggest fear is that this idea won't continue to develop and evolve.

A unique LitRPG from an interesting point of view.

I've read plenty of LitRPGs and a lot of them are the same. I've been on the prowl for more stories where our protagonist are more monster-like after reading the New Era Online & Chrysalis series.

This was a treat where our protagonist is one of the most unique i've come across. Who doesn't love a good dog? One who isn't a former human or was reborn into this world. A newly sentient creature now painfully aware of the lonely cruel world it's always lived in but could never hope to truly understand. Desperately trying to survive by any means necessary.

Good

Aside from authors strange obsession of meticulously explaining each little movement in too many details, I liked this book quite alot. It kinda falls to same trap many other grimdark fantasy does by being gritty and violent for the sake of being gritty/violent, but is still very interesting overall. Looking forward to next book.
