Publisher's summary

Every mind holds a secret. Some are more deadly than others.

Nightshade County Sheriff Thomas Shepherd is a successful model for every law enforcement officer with autism. He leads an idyllic life in his uncle’s old home along Wolf Lake, and is planning to marry private investigator Chelsey Byrd.

But when a star athlete’s girlfriend disappears while camping, everyone blames the boyfriend. He’s volatile and dangerous. Did he murder the girl and bury her in the woods? The sheriff’s gut tells him there’s more to the story than the boyfriend is willing to admit. The more he digs into the case, the more he worries someone is hiding a dark secret.

Is the boy a killer. Or is he the next victim?

AnnieM

I did not care for the narrator, her accents are all over the place. I put up with it because I enjoyed the Wolf Lake Series and I like the characters.

Terrible narrator!!

After listening to all of the Wolf Lake series this narrator did a horrible job with Aguilar, Raven and Lavar’s accents!! Bring back Daniela Acitelli

Excellent Spin Off Series!!!!

I’m not sure why this series changed from Wolf Lake Thrillers to Thomas Shepherd Mysteries. This has the same characters and pretty much the same type of story lines. But either way this is a good book. This is the first book in the new spin off series, it’s not necessary to read the previous however I would suggest listening to both. The character of Thomas Shepherd has come a long way since the beginning and so have all of the other characters.
This is a very good procedural. There are multiple plots as well as agencies. There’s a kidnapping and a murder being investigated by Shepherd. At the same time there’s a slew of home invasions in a wealthy neighborhood that is being investigated by Shepherd’s fiancé Chelsea, a private investigator. All three are wrapped up by the end with a satisfying conclusion.
I’m a little surprised that this author doesn’t get more recognition. He is currently writing the Scarlett and Logan series which is also very good.
Connie Shabshab has not always been my favorite narrator but I do think she has gotten much better.
This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Not up to par

It was good but not as good as he’s produced. But still a good listen.

Good Book, did not like the narration

I like the book. it was filled with twists and turns. I was not a fan of the narrator, though. She gave the characters bad accents, and since I have already listened to several of the Wolf Lake books, the accents didn't sit well with me.
