Poignant and Coming-of Age

Two young boys, Bucky and Pug are enjoying their summer between middle school and high school. Their summer in between childhood and moving into teenage young adulthood is moving and nostalgic. Their journey into adulthood and their arrival into adulthood are realistic to the time.

The author, Bob Gunner presents a captivating ‘coming-of-age’ tale in which the 1970s come to life for those who are too young to remember or experience them and those that smile in remembrance of those rare and unique times. The Drive-Ins were a huge part of this time period and Gunner captures their ambiance perfectly as well the time between middle and high school. His descriptions are vivid and described in detail in concise words. The character development was well done with each character being fully developed yet left flawed for all to see.

The narrator, Brooks Corley is an excellent narrator. His voice projects the emotions of the story well and captures the personality of each character vividly. His delivery is well-timed and smoothly delivered. I enjoy hearing performances by Brooks Corley.

I found this book hard to shut off as I was so caught up in reliving the time of drive-in movies with my parents and later with my friends and finally with my soon-to-be husband! The experiences and emotions were vividly brought back and reexperienced. I highly recommend this book and this narrator!

Interesting short story

I commute a lot and this story was perfect for my commute. It is a coming of age story, full of nostalgia from the summer of 1973. Great if you like stories to keep your mind occupied.

Nostalgic Coming of age story that'll win you over

I loved Lost Summer of Drive in Movies. It is a beautiful coming of age story that takes place in the 70s. Although I did not grow up in the 70ss, I could very well recognize nostalgic elements in the book from 70s from my parent's stories. The plot is engaging and isn't unnecessarily complex and is driven by the emotions of characters and their decisions, which anyone can relate to. Narration is well done which makes the whole experience much better.

Great coming of age story

I was born in 72 and much of this book takes place in 73 but all of it was familiar and the nostalgia was intense. I loved this coming of age story of the 70’s. The characters were well written, flawed and real.
Narration by Brooks Corley was really good.
