Zombies and Psychos

I read the first book in this series and had problems with the fact that there was little story or character development. The author has done a better job with this book. There were parts of the book that were well-written and poignant, showing the feelings of people as they try to make peace with the fact that they could soon become one of the Undead.

Also, there were some unique ideas in this book that I haven't read repeatedly in other books in this genre. With so many Zompoc books around, that isn't easy to do. There is a totally whiny, irritating character and I am ashamed to admit that I was happy when they were attacked by zombies. But, I still never got invested in any of the characters. There is plenty of descriptive gore, zombie bashing, and terror as people try to escape the Undead.

However, I felt that the addition of the short chapters devoted to the scientists didn't really fit into this book. I think it would have been better if the author had devoted a totally separate book to that part of the story. Also, there was way too much swearing for my taste. I'm no prude, but conversations that were mostly cursing didn't add anything IMHO. And, the psycho killer who becomes a zombie and then sexually tortures a woman were way too much for me. This part of the book didn't add anything to the story and I would suggest a trigger warning about this.

I would only recommend this book to the truly diehard zombie fans. As much as I enjoy this genre, I won't be finishing the series. I was given the chance to listen to this book by the author/publisher/narrator and chose to review it.

Great Zombie Romp!

Review of Audiobook- Stay Dead 2 The Dead and Dying by Steve Wands, Performed by Jason Hill

Stay Dead 1 was good, but the second book of the series was even better. Steve Wands delivers a zombie romp that is never short on action. The characters are intriguing, especially the introduction to a serial killer left for dead. Or Undead?

The storyline deepens in this novel and the world is taking more shape. It isn’t pretty…Some characters die….Ok, a lot of people die… in good zombie fashion. The survivors though bring you to the edge of your seat….

This audiobook was performed by narrator Jason Hill. This narrator hit it out of the park with the right tone and style needed for this book. He was clear and no audio issues were heard. He guided the story exactly how it needed to be told and was a big asset for this series.

Looking forward to the third installment in this series. Great job Steve Wands and Jason Hill.
