Publisher's summary

Bad childhood memories start to resurface when Hannah Hall’s daughter Rosie begins school. To make matters more complicated, Hannah has been steadfastly ignoring the obvious truth that Rosie is intellectually gifted and wise beyond her years.

In the crumbling old school, she meets Rosie’s new teacher, Alice Spencer, who has moved from the city to teach in the small coastal town of Fairlight.

Alice immediately sees Rosie’s potential and embarks on developing an educational curriculum to suit Rosie’s needs, to Hannah’s dismay.

Teacher and mother clash over what’s best for young Rosie.

Will they be able to compromise? Will Hannah finally open up to someone about her own damaged up bringing?

And will they be able to ignore the sparks that fly whenever they are in the same room?

Second Chances

This was a touching story of a young single mother with a young but precocious daughter entering her first year of school. Hannah has always felt like an outcast and has no friends other than her boss Adrian. She believes everyone looks down on her. She always sees the worst in people so when her daughter starts school, she worries about how Rosie will fare. Alice is an experienced teacher who just moved to the district. She quickly gets to know her students and colleagues, for good or bad.

Kim Bretton did a fine job of narrating, bringing out the emotions of the main characters. There are many characters but I was never confused about which one was speaking (or thinking). I finished this over 2 days and never felt lost or confused as to which character was saying or feeling whatever. It was an entertaining and engrossing story.

A wonderful romance with a gripping storyline

I absolutely loved this book! It was a sweet romance with a gripping, suspenseful part. I didn't want it to end. I usually listen when I'm driving or doing things but I was so hooked on this book that I listened every chance I got. The narrator was phenomenal especially considering she had to do several character voices including a child's voice. I really hope there will be a sequel because I'd love to find out what happens next for Hannah, Alice and Rosie! I hadn't heard this narrator before and I've only read one other of this author's work. I will be looking for more from both.

Great Listen!

I loved this audiobook. I loved listening to the narrator with her different english accents. just to let you know, there's no sex in this book. the story is great and the banter between the women is adorable (wished there was a sex scene)

Excellent!

I loved Second Chances. A great view of life in a small town full of gossips with nothing better to do with their time. I'm sure many parents of gifted children struggle to do the right thing. Kim Bretton does a great job with the narration.

Lovable

I found it absolutely endearing, the characters are very much likeable..I’m not a big fan of kids in books but I ended up wanting to have a little girl just like Rosie. Wonderful things can happen once you overcome your fears.
