Publisher's summary

When a devastating electromagnetic pulse is detonated over the USA, it leads to a total loss of power and a complete and catastrophic breakdown of everyday society. As the country descends into chaos and anarchy, one man makes an epic decision in order to save his loved ones and find a place of safety.

From their home in McKinney, Texas, Lance prepares to lead his wife and three young sons, an assorted group of friends, and neighbors on a long and treacherous journey across the country toward the only point on the map that he thinks will provide them with the security they need.

Their journey promises to be long and arduous, and Lance will discover more about life than he ever thought possible as they find that desperate circumstances most often bring out the best, and sometimes the worst, in human nature.

But the sprawling Saddle Ranch is in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and between them lies over 800 miles of harsh terrain, now filled with desperate, and oftentimes wretched, hostiles.

Can Lance navigate a safe passage to the promise of a better life for them all? Or has he taken on much more than he bargained for?

Decent story

Decent enough story to continue to the next book. Narrator could be better, but got used to the narrator pretty quickly.

The rapidness of running into criminals was a bit unbelievable, but most is reasonable enough to being believable.

Not too bad

Has a religious edge with praying but that’s ok. It also splits between 3 teams each in a different place, one of which I couldn’t get interested in. Not sure some of the things would gel with a real EMP scenario, but still an ok book. Will get the next in the series.

Interesting but not sold yet

I’m struggling a bit. The story has me interested as it
Is honestly a bit more realist as to how things would likely go down. Folks aren’t immediately transformed into animals and the heroes aren’t immediately Jason Bourne. Little contrived at times. The narrator is a problem for me. Kind of like he reads it once and whatever comes out is the final version.

I’m going to get the second book and give it a second chance.

So so good

This was such a good book. I like how it is so detailed and so well written. This is something that could very well happen anytime and we would all be lost because everything is electronic. Great narration. Really Really good.

It was good.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Okay, so I enjoyed the story. I didn’t enjoy the sound effects though... I like to listen to audiobooks when I drive (as a lot of people do) and they weren’t really pleasant to hear. Other than that, I liked the book itself.

A little slow

I initially thought this book was going to blow my mind, it started out fast paced and drew my in quickly but soon slowed down after the first few chapters. There were some parts throughout the book where things got interesting but overall I felt like it was too slow for my liking.

The narrator has a subtle mid western accident, I wouldn't have caught it until I heard the way he pronounced "garage" and "sorry" along with other words here and there which took my focus off the book. Overall his tone of voice was very game show like, he'd make a great game show host!

narrator needs hooked on phonics.

story over all was okay. Narrator well he needs hooked on phonics. first of all why do people need to put a round in the chamber after they get to the gun fight? that should already been done. the story could of been better, but it just seemed forced.

Interesting

Similar to most books in this genre. Starts with a SHTF situation and shows the actions of three groups as they try to survive and reunite.

They are praying, then they are cussing.

Fuck is their favorite curse word. Why? Let's pray then let's cuss. It would have been better without the cussing.
