Publisher's summary

The human race just got bumped from the top of the food chain....

Early fall. A top-secret research project goes terribly wrong. A new species, the Reapers, are unleashed onto the unsuspecting citizens of Philadelphia and soon the rest of the country. The Reapers are stronger, faster, and have no mercy for any humans who have the misfortune of crossing their paths.

Philadelphia cop Malcolm Foster quickly discovers a routine disturbance call is anything but ordinary. Foster soon finds himself scrambling to survive, gather together a rag-tag group of survivors, and get them out of the city. As Foster and his group fight to escape the city and find a Reaper-free sanctuary, a looming question prevails.

Can anyone stop the Reapers from taking over the world? This is the story of the Wretched, a rag-tag group of survivors who may be the only ones that can keep the human race from becoming extinct.

Worth the listen.

I listen to Audiobooks all day at work and this one though not in the top tier was still worth the listen. The story was good the narration was not bad but a bit over the top on occasion. It was good enough that I will invest in the next book in the series in a few months after I listen to others in my library.

The Wretched

Similar story to them all.Scientist creates the drug, someone tries to steal it and things go awry creating 'monsters'.It does not get interesting until the end. Narration by Brian Callanan was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

Zombie apocalypse, Military/Police perspective

So this book is the beginnings of a “zombie” apocalypse. But it’s like zombies meets military. The zombies were people injected with a drug meant to enhance the military. However, it turns the subjects into zombies who crave flesh and blood. These zombies are special tho- they can bite/create an army of their kind, as followers of the main zombie. (Think of the main guy calling the shots (OG lab created zombie) and the peons/2nd generation (bitten zombies)). The main zombie can “control” the 2nd gen zombies. It’s a different dynamic than most zombie situations.
The main character is a police officer and he has 2 ex military buddies. The story follows the officer through finding his buddy’s, rescuing the mayor, rescuing one of the military buddies wife and a few other people, until they have a final stand at his uncles house- where they find out of you killl the leader of the pack (The OG lab created zombie) the. All his followers will perish as well (ones he created, 2nd gen).

Everything is very on par with most zombie style movies, but this shows the zombie perspective as well, which I like. It has a very police/military tone to it, so if your into those kinds of books- you’ll love this! It reminds me alot of how I think my father in law (ex military/ex cop) would handle himself on this situation.

Overall, I like it so far. This book ended in a way that made me want to know more. It lead into the second book very well. It feels like it could be a movie! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes zombie books or military/cop mentality books.

This book was gifted to me to review honestly.

The good!
People in this book make choices and act like real people! The police and military characters make actual choices that tactically make sense!
The monsters have a sudo hive mind, witch really helps keep me engaged with them, and feel like the danger was present.
This is a really good account of what the opening days of a scenario like this would be like.

The Bad...
The author reuses some phrases to much. "Flew true" and actions that needed no description happening "immediately" being the big ones for me. The big ones that stick out is cars starting immediately.
I also feel like way to much happened in the book to have been such a short amount of time, but that could be because I read it over a week.

Over all, I enjoyed this book, and am enjoying the sequel as well.

Zombie meets Super Soldier

Fast Zombie, Slow Zombie, Smart Zombie, Dumb Zombie, Super Alpha Zombie. This book has them all and it couldn't be more entertaining for it. I think my favorite part was when the Alpha Zombie had to go back to open a door because the other zombies couldn't get through, I laughed quite a bit on that scene. Brian Callanan does a great job with the voice characterizations which really helps give the story life. Two big thumbs up.

I was provided this book as a reviewers copy free of charge in exchange for an honest opinion. I will be continuing the series for sure.

Soooo good

I’ve had this for a month or two but I just wasn’t sure if I’d like it. I didn’t, I loved it! Action packed, relatable characters and a total new take on things apocalyptic. Think maybe it’s a werewolf strain but super cool concept and idea. I’m starting book two tonight.
Brian did an excellent job narrating. I think this is the first book I’ve listen to by him.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.

Reapers!!!

I enjoyed the different types of reapers there were in this book. Especially how there is an Alpha whom directs them and drive them towards a task. The narrator did a great job with the difference tones for each character.

Unfulfilled Promise

This was an average start to a dystopian series. I hope it gets better as the series progresses. It doesn’t seem like the author spent enough time world building, therefore there are plot holes, characters I really don’t care about, etc...

The narration is spot on by Brian.

Recommended if your looking for a dystopian fix, but don’t expect perfection.
