Publisher's summary

The human race is in the fight of their lives...and they're losing.

In the first 24 hours, the Reapers have already begun to shift the balance of power in their favor. Inside their own ranks, one creature rises to become their undisputed leader.

Hiding in the rural suburbs of Philadelphia, Malcolm Foster has gathered "The Wretched", a rag-tag group of survivors, and gone underground in hopes of avoiding the Reaper attacks.

But it doesn't take long for Foster to realize the Reapers have sprung a new plan: A targeted culling of those who protect Americans. If they succeed, then those who are left behind will be nearly defenseless and unable to stop the Reapers from taking over.

Can Foster find some way to stop the Reapers before they succeed?

Still good

Ok so some of this is silly but the story is still really good.
I can’t believe they would let Olivia a 12 year old girl walk home. (I think that was her age) I will add that she had just been chased by reapers. It was never explained why they ignored everyone else and only chased her.
Other things are bothering me a bit too. The reapers are a bit mindless and dumb one second but know random things the next. I guess you should make them dumb or intelligent. Not mix it the way this has been done.
I’m still enjoying the books because the human characters are extraordinarily well written.
The ‘Alpha’ reapers are a bit comical, wanting power and to take over the world but eventually their food source will run out. Again a smart reaper but also stupid. Think comic book villain.
Narration by Brian Callanan is spectacular.

A good follow-up

This is a good follow up to the first book. I loved the action, and things seemed to move along quite nicely. Still the same likes...monsters, action, location, characters, and the dislikes are pretty much the same, although the monster control and command structure are too much for me.

Narration was good, but if you have listened to the Generation Z books, this series sounds just like it. I guess that is to be expected given they have the same narrator, but it struck me as interesting.

I am interested in the follow-on book and will listen when it comes out.

Fun engaging story

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The narration in this is excellent.
The writing could use a little work. From a story perspective this is engaging and fun. The author way way overused the phrases instinctively and immediately. In several spots characters will openly state one thing and then do the opposite. For example the president demands every option of matter how crazy to stop the infestation and then immediately yells at people for wanting to use nukes.

Sergeant Black was a low spot in the story for me he was antagonistic for seemingly no reason at all.

There was also some repetition from the first book.

Overall I’d say that the story is pretty interesting and would recommend it to the fans of the genre.

An exciting second book!

Wretched Cullin is even better than the first book. It's fast-paced, thrilling, and the action is ramped up significantly. The Reapers are relentless, slaughtering the police, army, and lawmaker— those who protect society. Police precinct, the military base, including federal government properties, are all strategically attacked. As the scale continues to shift, the Reapers gain a foothold in the major cities all the while humanity's fate grows grimmer by the hour.

E.G. Michaels has written an engaging tale that will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. The concept that the creatures maintain their intelligence has made this series genuinely exciting. Topped with a great plot, characters, and a brilliant narrator, this series is an excellent choice.

Once more, the narration was outstanding. Brian Callanan did an exceptional job bringing the book and characters to life. Aside from applying distinct tones for different characters, his performance is packed with all the emotions and intensity found in the scenes. Entirely absorbed, I literally forgot that only one person was narrating this audiobook.

Overall, this was a fantastic listen, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and highly recommend it.
