Publisher's summary

In this small town, keeping secrets is a matter of life or death....

East St. Louis deputy Patrick O’Shea is tired of living in the line of fire. So when he gets a chance to transfer to his wife’s small hometown, he doesn’t hesitate to load up the moving van. But his family’s bags are barely unpacked before their newfound peace and quiet shatters in a surge of demonic voices....

The deputy has faced his fair share of evil, but nothing quite like this. Normally the first into the fray, he worries they’ve unearthed a force not even his special training and inner-city experience can combat....

Can Patrick protect his family from supernatural foes, or will a festering evil consume the ones he loves most?

The Dark Sacrifice is a haunting horror novel not for the faint of heart. If you like supernatural chills, family secrets, and ominous small-towns, then you’ll love Jay Bower’s spine-tingling tale.

Hmmm

Not really a horror book at all. They build up this story then the book end with a wimper. I guess I was just expecting more from a horror book.

3.5* - good menacing paranormal thriller

Good story – within the first 20 minutes of the audiobook, you’re able to connect the dots enough to figure out what’s going to happen. What you don’t know until the end is how/why it’s happening. I don’t mind when stories are set up this way, because I like to see how the author leads us through the story. The final reveal reminded me a lot of the old Scooby Doo cartoons; I won’t say anything farther about that, for fear of going into spoiler territory. But if you listen to the audiobook, you’ll see what I mean when you get to the ‘final reveal’ scene.

I thought that both the author and narrator knocked it out of the park with the character of the hero’s police partner. I got a bit frustrated with the hero’s reactions to certain situations, and I felt the final chapter wound things up a bit too conveniently. But overall, I have no major complaints – it was an interesting and menacing story that held my attention and kept me engaged.
The narrator was good for most of his voice characters; I’d listen to this narrator again.

Solidly Creepy Small Town Yarn

I found myself enjoying this creepy story about a smalltown with a couple hundred years of questionable history. The main character (who isn't super sharp, but a little suspension of disbelief helps like with most horror) navigates some odd behavior, and discovers the truth of the town leading to a showdown with the underlying cause of everything.

The narrator was pretty good for this style of story, aiding in the building of suspense and delivering lines with aplomb.

A messed up town

All the people had spent 200 years making a sacrifice to appease evil that lives among them.
The story is very well written. It held my attention from beginning to end. Jay Bower does not disappoint with his tale of horror

Jack Clancey was perfect for this audible, his voices and emotions used were perfect.

Strong to stale

This book starts out strong and solid it somewhere in the middle of starts to lose steam. Jack Clancy as the narrator did a phenomenal job but even this could not save this book from become stale. I received this book at my request and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review here.

3.5 Stars

So Dark Sacrifice is more of a 3.5 star rating. 3 stars it too low personally while 4 stars is a bit too high. I wish I could rate with partial stars.

The story... there was plenty of gore and ickiness, I know... I’m a total grown up here. I really enjoyed the story and the mysteriousness to it all. I like the cult-like and/or brainwashing thoughts we get from residents... the crazies!! There are some areas that I wished the storyline expanded on and that’s where star removals comes in. I definitely think the author could have made this an ultimate creepy horror... it was close.

The narrator, Jack Clancy has a very pleasant voice. I know I thought several times that he would make an excellent television narrator for police shows or even science and history. As a horror audiobook where we are giving children over as sacrifices, I’d just thought there would have been more feelings or anguish in the narrator’s voice. However it stayed very consistent. Which isn’t a negative per say, it’s really a personal preference.

Dark Sacrifice

Same old story,a town needs a sacrifice to apease the monster for another few years.A family moves back in town just in time. There was a lot of excess drama 'touch my son and I will KILL YOU!!!!!" kind of stuff. It was fair to good.Jack Clancy was a good narrator.
