  • Will my dog get collar smart?

  • How do I transition off the e-collar?
  • How do I use an e-collar if my dog has already worn a bark collar or perimeter fence collar before?
  • Stealing food from the counter?
  • Dogs eating poop?
  • Jumping up on people?
  • Pulling on the leash?
  • Working with two dogs at the same time?
  • Predatory chasing?
  • How far should my dog range away from me?

Excellent All Around!

Being completely new to ecollar training myself - this book was an excellent resource. The author did a great job of explaining how and WHY to use this training method. Helped alleviate any pre-guilt I had for using an ecollar, and gave great clear steps to get started wisely and ethically. Also some funny parts! Highly recommended.

Very informative

Lots of great nuggets of information. With this book, an average pet owner has a much greater chance of training their dog without additional help. Well worth the money.

Easy to follow and comprehensive guide

Ted is a very nice person, who is passionate about dog training and helping people to have a happy and well-behaved dog. His audio book is a very well structured guide about the e-collar (also known as remote collar). His English is clear and easy to understand (I am not a native English speaker). He explains the principle behind this tool, which is one of the most misunderstood tools in the dog training world. This is probably caused by the first e-collar models, which were usually used to punish a dog...this is the reason the legacy "shocking collar" term. I do recommend to listen this book before You buy an e-collar as Ted points out the most important features of a good remote collar, which should be considered. E-collar is an incredible tool in the dog training process, but it can be harmful if not used correctly or if the remote collar is a crappy one. Be aware of this, as there is a lot of crappy models in the market. The e-collar based training represented in this book is tailor-made for pet dogs, which can be more sensitive. It is a bit different, than the majority YouTube videos about dog friendly e-collar training. The principle is the same, but Ted represents a gentler approach based on his rich dog training experiences. The main part of the book is a well structured guide about off leash training.
In addition to this Ted provides a guide for perimeter training with the remote collar. Perimeter training represented in the book can supersede an in-ground fence system, so it can save your money and a high quality e-collar provides a more dog friendly way of perimeter training than a shocking collar provided for in-ground fence systems.
Finally Ted provides a guide and many advice about removing undesired behaviors like leash pulling, poop eating, jumping, etc.
As a bonus, Ted created a nice video series about the off-leash training represented in the book and also a printable homework sheet about the required steps. Ted will tell You the link in the book. To summarize, it is a nice, easy to understand book with a good structure. It is written for dog owners, who consider to reach out for e-collar. Your dog will probably not love the e-collar itself, as the principle used in e-collar training is based on negative reinforcement. However overall your dog will be much happier and will love off leash freedom. You will have a higher control on your dog, so he will not harm itself or others and You will be a less frustrated dog owner, which is one of the biggest sources of dogs' happiness.

Excellent resource for a better understanding of balanced training!

This book has been very helpful to me in many ways! As a high school Spanish teacher (who happens to love dog training) I have learned over the years the importance of scaffolding new content with my students. In the same way, I really appreciate how Ted scaffolds the skills of using an e-collar. He teaches a patient process that supports long term solid success...not the quick fix. He communicates very clearly the importance of having a balanced approach to training and a commitment to doing it the right way for real results. I’ve read the book, I feel confident about the process and I’m looking forward to getting started with my German Shepherds.

Another thing that I appreciate is how Ted shares his own personal story about his dogs which I believe many readers will identify with.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning how to be an effective well-balanced dog trainer!
