Publisher's summary

Craig Beck is a well-regarded family man with two children, a nice home and a successful media career. A director of several companies & at one time the trustee of a large children’s charity. Outwardly, Craig was a highly successful & functioning professional man in spite of a ‘2 bottles of wine a night’ drinking habit. For 20 years he struggled to control his drinking, all the time refusing to label himself an alcoholic because he didn't believe he met the stereotypical image that the word portrayed.

He tried countless ways to cut down; attempting ‘dry months’, banning himself from drinking spirits, only drinking at the weekend & special occasions (and found that it is amazing how even the smallest of event can suddenly become ‘special’). All these 'will power' based attempts to stop drinking failed (exactly as they were destined to do). Slowly he discovered the truth about alcohol addiction & one by one all the lies he had previously believed started to fall apart. For the first time he noticed that he genuinely didn’t want to drink anymore. In this book he will lead you though the same amazing process.

Thousands of people just like you have quit drinking using this method and their feedback and advice has gone into creating this extended and updated edition. The Craig Beck stop drinking method is unique...

  • No need to declare yourself an alcoholic.
  • A permanent cure, not a lifetime struggle.
  • No group meetings or expensive rehab.
  • No humiliation, no pain and 100% no ‘will power’ required.
  • Treats the source of the problem not the symptoms.

    Worth a listen

I would say I am glad I bought this book...as a social drinker who would not classify themselves as an alcoholic. However I can clearly see where drinking has a negative impact on my life and has to go if I want to achieve the goals I actually care about...weight management and other personal goals that require focus and energy.

I thought the author was a bit over the top at times, but his message rang true and there is some good information and common sense stuff you might need to hear, if you are struggling with some issues based around this socially acceptable drug habit.

Has it "cured me" of my desire to drink? Sure...until I go out Sat night. BUT I will listen to it a few times more to help me in truly changing how I look at it, and see it for the poison it really is.

    Good luck :)

ROCK SOLID! A MUST READ! WRONG ON AA THOUGH...

Would you listen to Alcohol Lied To Me - Extended Edition again? Why?

Yes. This book is a fundamental read for those who have an alcohol or any addition and want to become free. Craig mentioned in the book that AA fails because it requires the use of will power to stop drinking. Either Craig has never been to an AA meeting, read the Big Book, or ever talked to an AA member. AA uses a spiritual and denounces will power as a path to find and maintain sobriety. As an AA member who seeks knowledge from many sources, I urge Craig to amend this area of his book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Craig of course.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Learning my ego was the cause of all the detriment in my life.

Want to Quit Drinking... This is worth a listen.

What made the experience of listening to Alcohol Lied To Me - Extended Edition the most enjoyable?

The number one ingredient that can make or break any Audible recording for me is the reader. No matter how great a story is, if the reader's voice or method of reading doesn't fit, it degrades the experience for me greatly.

Beck has a great voice and, as the author, captures the emotion behind his writing perfectly. His perspective, points and solutions are very compelling. This is definitely the logical, thinking man's guide to quitting any addictive drug, not just drinking.

The most persuasive point he asserts is that alcohol is just as dangerous and just as addictive as any deplorable street drug. Beck points out that the only differences between alcohol and other drugs is that alcohol is legal, easily accessible, prettily packaged, glamorously marketed and socially acceptable. Other than that, there is no difference. It is life destroying, brain altering and expensive. It robs the user of time, desire, opportunity, money, good health, career, family, marriage and so much more. If used for long enough, alcohol, like any drug will eventually own your life.

A persuasive tool he uses to illustrate his point is looking at how adamantly people cling to their excuses about their alcohol use. To do this, he inserts the names of other addictive drugs in place of the word “alcohol”. Examples (not direct from the book):

"I'm not addicted to heroin whatsoever. I take it only during social events and on weekends."

"I don't crave cocaine and it’s not like I do it all day. I only take at it night, after a long day at work. I owe it to myself and it helps me relax."

This is the part that really drove it home for me as I have made some of these excuses. “I don’t drink to get drunk. I just really love a good glass of wine.” Insert heroin instead and you see how ridiculous it is.

Finally, Beck presents solutions on how to move forward: coping with the withdrawals and the realities of looking ahead to a sober future.

Beck’s “Alcohol Lied to Me” is a persuasive, logical guide to help readers quit drinking for life, woven with reason and humor. I would highly recommend it.

    Any additional comments?

I would prefer less self-promotion and Audible reviews throughout the book. As I already bought the book I really did not need to hear them. Nevertheless, as they are placed at the end of the chapters, they are very easy to skip over.

Finally, in the US TFT is typically referred to as EFT. As weird as it may appear, it is very powerful.

    Good luck!

Lots of enthusiasm - smart book

Would you consider the audio edition of Alcohol Lied To Me - Extended Edition to be better than the print version?

Don't know. I did not read the print version.

Which character – as performed by Craig Beck – was your favorite?

    Great book, great narration

This book truly works. You learn why alcohol is so bad for you, even that "heart healthy" red wine. It is ingrained in your mind that alcohol has no good purpose; it is simply a toxic poison that is attractively packaged and seductively marketed.

This knowledge is backed up by 4 different hypnosis tracks that eliminate your subconscious desire to drink. No conscious will power is required, because your subconscious mind no longer wants to drink. And it works!

Add to all that his great voice and narrating abilities, and you have a 5-star book.

CRAIG IS RIGHT... YOU CANT EXPLAIN THIS TO OTHERS!

Would you listen to Alcohol Lied To Me - Extended Edition again? Why?

YES... Because each time I listened to it I picked up on parts that meant something different to me. It's probably because my mind started to clear up from being sober. Just like teaching yourself to do anything you have to teach yourself to be sober. Playing this audio here and there after listening to its entirety really helped me when I was feeling like my ego was taking over. I recommend getting the Quit Drinking Hypnosis. I cant explain the freedom I feel from this technique. I've been a heavy drinker since I was a teenager and now I do NOT have a single urge to drink. I use to plan my whole day around drinking and now I feel total freedom.

    Thank you Craig...

What does Craig Beck bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice is very easy to understand and listen to.

    becoming Craig Beck fan

Have you listened to any of Craig Beck’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

yes, his book about secret of law of attraction. i love that book a lot and i couldn't have enough of hearing what he got to tell about any other topic he's working on. Comparing this to his book 'secret of law of attraction'. The difference is this book, got the whole power of Craig Beck got to give hitting directly on a breaking of alcohol drinking habit. This book has given it's fullest energy in all possible way to shake you off the alcohol habit grip. It's very focused and to me this is a very good punch. ;-)

    Any additional comments?

Not a drinker myself i just plainly want to listen more of Craig Beck. I found his thought related to subjects fascinating. The book somehow also benefit a non drinker like me (i don't drink alcohol at all but i got some other unhealthy addiction i would love to quit). i love his authentic approach (because sometimes it's hard to admit reality when you don't want to believe it) and i think this approach can help me clear off many unhealthy distorted social value that embedded in my brain out of my life. :-) Craig Beck now has become my favorite author. give it a try. any possible way to shake problems off your life is worth taking another and another try. search and you shall find. cheers ~ :-))

    Worked For Me. However....

What disappointed you about Alcohol Lied To Me - Extended Edition?

...don't be tempted to join the Craig Beck online site that is heavily advertised throughout this audiobook. A lot of the content is limited until you have been subscribed for up to 4 months (to preserve bandwidth apparently). So some content could effectively cost almost £100!! When you are allowed to download content it is all very similar, with identical passages 'cut & pasted' throughout. Actual download files will require some reorganising with filenames, id3 tags, etc - all very unprofessional. The forum is practically dead and I'm not convinced they are all from real subscribers. If you succumb to the adverts in this audiobook and actually join, take out a 1 month offer and then cancel before 28 days and take up the $9.99 VIP offer (which is still double the amount I feel it's actually worth!)

    Working for me!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Alcohol Lied To Me - Extended Edition to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version, yet.

    Any additional comments?

I listened to this book on my way to night shift on Monday (2.5 hrs to work and the same return), by the time I got home Tuesday morning I was a non drinker. I have no stress from stopping my daily habit and feel great, I just have to pinch myself to confirm this is real. I did use the Alan Carr book a few years ago and quit for a couple of weeks but this book has worked straight away and I honesty cannot imagine going back to the bad old days of drinking. I have listened to the book daily on my commute which probably helps, most people would not have the time for this, but while I am driving its no problem and Craig tells his story in an engaging manner. Highly recommended.

    Useful but too 'sales pitch'

There's a lot of useful insight in here, however I found the author's style grating and a little patronising and smug in tone. Sometimes felt like I was in the board room listening to a sales pitch of an over priced marketing agency or zealous preacher. Also found the presentation music interludes a bit cringe. Alcohol Explained is a far superior listen / read if you are struggling to pick one. If I had spotted that the author had written books on how to 'pick up women' before purchasing i wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole. Vom

Thank you Craig. Your book has triggered something in me that I didn't think was possible. I can now see a bright and sober future ahead of me. You have hit the nail well and truly on the head!

Couldn't even get to the end...

I love a lot of sober quit lit, Annie Grace, Sober Diaries, etc and this book came with lots of recommendations from Club Soda members but Beck's narrative was too sales-y, too inauthentic, and for me not compassionate or engaging enough. he's ex radio and you can tell - it's a bit cheesy and it's also narrated in a grating transatlantic drawl which i found unbearable. the recording is also full of loud glitches and technical faults - but that's nothing compared to the endless sales patter where beck directs you to his other sites for losing weight or makes you listen to some customer success quotes in an 80s gameshow style recording. most sober books feel authentic and heartfelt - this just felt like i was being sold a method of quitting by a second hand car salesman. it's all subjective, so many people have been helped by this book but it just wasn't for me.

4 years ago, this book changed my life. Thank you.

What made the experience of listening to Alcohol Lied To Me - Extended Edition the most enjoyable?

The results. I can't say I bought this book to pass the time, I bought it because I was looking for information to help me do something. I found everything I needed in the recording, and the most enjoyable part of that is the result which has led me to come back 4 years later to write this review to say thank you to Mr Beck.

Who was your favorite character and why?

There is only one character really, one who you will listen to and trust and learn from.

Have you listened to any of Craig Beck’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have, but this is by far the best in my opinion.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I found it on a whole very informative, motivational and moving, but couldn't single out a single moment. It is some years since I last listened to it though last though!

    Any additional comments?

Yes. If you are anything like me, sometimes you reluctantly might need to find help from someone to achieve something. In this book I found the perfect tools to do the job I needed to do. If you are considering buying this book, then possibly you have been looking to do the same thing I was, 4 very happy, productive years ago. You too will find everything you need in this book. I've come back all this time later because I really would like to thank Mr Beck for the help this book gave me (and friends of mine who have also used the information to help stop drinking).I hope this review makes sense, I've never felt compelled to write one before, but credit where credit is due - thank you Mr Beck.

    Distracting content.

It would be a lot better if the audible book was not constantly interrupted by the author constantly reading out his five star reviews for the book. You can make your own mind up about the book without having to listen to what other readers/listeners (all five star reviewers) think of it. Apart from that it is pretty good stuff. compares favourably with This Naked Mind, which is the bible for giving up alcohol by changing your mindset.

You lost me at meridian points.

Starting with the positives. Craig reads the book well and with more emotion than any other audiobook I’ve listened to. It’s obvious he is passionate about the subject and it comes across.

He also makes a compelling argument about why a person should abstain from the ‘poison’ rather than moderate.

    Moving on to negatives.

This did feel like a bit of a sales pitch often referring to other books of his that were available to purchase. I’ve never before listened to an audiobook that spends so much time talking about other books you can listen to.

I wrote down the list of supplements Craig recommended as he sounded convincing when he spoke about the science of why these were beneficial to someone giving up alcohol.

However, my trust in his grasp of science was shattered when he advised the use of TFT (Thought Field Therapy. In short, tapping meridian points). He then stated a simple Google search would show the wealth of evidence to show how successful this technique is.
Not convinced, I took him up on this and found TFT largely described as ‘fringe’, ‘pseudoscience’ and ‘there is no scientific evidence TFT is effective’.

Unfortunately, I have now lost confidence in many of the other claims he has made in this book.

I recently listened to the Audiobook ‘Alcohol Explained’. I would highly recommend anyone considering giving up alcohol and who wants a truly scientific but understandable explanation about alcohol addiction to listen to that instead.

    Waited to write a review:)

I listened to the book and didn't really know what to expect. I listened to it a couple of times and had no intention of stopping drinking. I did the hypnotherapy for at least 21 days, probably a bit longer. I can now say that this book has helped me immensely and that I have not had an alcoholic drink in three months. I was drinking at least 3-4 nights per week and was drinking at least 3 bottles of wine before I listened to this book. Three months later and I haven't purchased alcohol or wanted to drink any alcohol at all and it just gets easier and easier. Life is more enjoyable now that I'm not ruled by my drinking habits.

Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! It set me free

What did you like most about Alcohol Lied To Me - Extended Edition?

This book set me free from the clutches of alcohol addiction and dependency. I had struggled with alcohol dependency for about 10 years prior. I had previously tried many different methods and medications (antabuse) without any sustained or prolonged success. Since listening in full to this book and religiously doing the meditations/hypnosis, I can report that it has now been 12 months since my last drink of alcohol.

What other book might you compare Alcohol Lied To Me - Extended Edition to, and why?

Not heard anything quite like it.

What does Craig Beck bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

A tone of voice and approach to the program that I originally found very aggressive. I almost stopped listening to the program because I thought he was too aggressive. However I am so pleased I kept listening. Craig also brings a bit of humor to the program as he points out how ridiculous this drug really is.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

Thank you Craig Beck. I paid $15 to set myself FREE from this dangerous drug. No more doctors appointments, no more drugs to assist, just the power of what is the truth about alcohol. I am a typical Australian male who really struggled with the role alcohol played in all parts of my life . Alcohol is so cleverly interwoven into our society whether that be at family functions, sporting events, workplace events, birthdays, weddings, engagements, relaxation, holidays etc etc It is accepted and encouraged. It is so difficult to refuse or escape from. Like many I believed that alcohol somehow enhanced these events but it is actually a complete fallacy as Craig so cleverly points out.. For anyone struggling with alcohol, I cannot recommend this program enough. Listen to it from start to finish, do not be tempted to skip ahead at any point.Brilliant program! Thanks again Craig, you are a superstar!

This book has changed my life

I first knew of Craig from listening to his podcasts and though that I went alcohol free for 4 months, until that 1 drink! I spiralled out of control with my daily double Whisky and Coke’s until I would pass out. Thank god I joined Audible and discovered Craig’s “Alcohol lied to me book” and after listening to it and doing the hypnosis for 21 days, the very though of alcohol absolutely repulses me. There will be no more just one drink! I feel, sleep and interact with my family like a new man which we all love. Thank you so much Craig, I would seriously pay 100 times what I did for your audio book. I have my life back.
