Publisher's Summary

A year ago, Sunny Nwazue, an American-born Nigerian girl, was inducted into the secret Leopard Society. As she began to develop her magical powers, Sunny learned she had been chosen to lead a dangerous mission to avert an apocalypse, brought about by the terrifying masquerade Ekwensu. Now, stronger, feistier, and a bit older, Sunny is studying with her mentor, Sugar Cream, and struggling to unlock the secrets in her strange Nsibidi book.

Eventually, Sunny knows she must confront her destiny. With the support of her Leopard Society friends Orlu, Chichi, and Sasha, and of her spirit face, Anyanwu, she will travel through worlds both visible and invisible to the mysterious town of Osisi, where she will fight a climactic battle to save humanity.

Much-honored Nnedi Okorafor, winner of the Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy awards, merges today's Nigeria with a unique world she creates. Akata Warrior blends mythology, fantasy, history, and magic into a compelling tale that will keep listeners spellbound.

Akata warrior

I just discovered this awesome author and her tales of Sunny. I love, love this series!! So much more than the Harry Potter series, this is the black version, but with much more flavor for both children and adults!! This is a series that children with Brown skin can identify with as well as realize that we belong, even in fantasy, too a world of our own imagination as well!!

It left me wanting to pick up with more. come on audible!! There are tons of voracious black and Brown readers. Let's see more from this author and more authors like her!! Well done, story, characters and narrator!

cant wait for next installment!!

although there are a couple of moments when voices blend together, It doesn't get in the way of the story! I enjoyed it so much. this book was challenging and I'm still wrapping my head around the universe and the timeline Nnedi has created and is creating in their books. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Wow .... I did not see this coming

I LOOOVVVEEEDDD IT (In my Oprah Winfrey voice). The characters grew gracefully as the story was told and oh what a story it was. I must admit the "what happen last season " part dragged a tad but I completely understood the tell of it all. The author kept the heart of Book 1 with the allowance of the reader to experience growth with each chapter. The differences were well thought out and I appreciated every one of them.

Fantastic!

An absolutely stunning follow up to the original. I was throughly entertained by the story and narration. A five star performance! The African Harry Potter and so much more. I am hooked now. More. More. More.

The best young adult literature of the new millennium! Deeply rich and beautiful material for a movie, I hope.

The series got better

I loved the first book for the characters, the narrator, the story, and the strength of the Nigerian setting and cultural influence. This book built on the first one, bringing depth to the characters and upping the stakes. Sunny is stronger but also dealing with more because of it. There is more about the integration of lamb and leopard worlds and more depth to her friends. I'm glad this book ended on a calm tone, though, because it'll make it a bit easier to wait for the next one.
