Publisher's Summary

Kabu kabu - unregistered, illegal Nigerian taxis - generally get you where you need to go. Nnedi Okorafor's Kabu Kabu, however, takes the listener to exciting, fantastic, magical, occasionally dangerous, and always imaginative locations you didn't know you needed.

This debut short-story collection by an award-winning author includes notable previously published material, a new novella cowritten with New York Times best-selling author Alan Dean Foster, six additional original stories, and a brief foreword by Whoopi Goldberg.

FANTASTIC!

I adore fantasy and this collection of tales is marvelous! The characters feel full and developed. The elements of magic and mysticism range from subtle to fantastic. I was worried that I wouldn't understand the book or the characters because the setting and culture in the book are so different from me. Okorafor has created such vividness that my own personal background or experience didn't matter. I was transported into the world of the book. I stayed up way too late because I couldn't ever stop a tale midway and then I always wanted one more tale. This is hands down one of the best pieces of fantasy fiction I have experienced in YEARS.

Good but not mind blowing

Some of the stories were better than others, and as a fan of Nnedi Okorafor, I've actually heard some of these shorts in fully developed books, with some changes here and there. I made sure to finish it to the end.

Just what A Magical Negro needed 💕

As an aspiring author, someone who longs for more stories where my people are the main, this was refreshing. I enjoyed every minute.

The perfect cocktail of Afrocentric sci-fi stories

I occasionally dabble into sci-fi. I was intrigued by this collection of Africa-themed sci-fi short stories written by a young female author. I was not disappointed. There was never a dull moment. Every story moved rhythmically and pulsated with emotion and imagination. It moved me. It stirred me. It made me feel alive!
