With the country slowly descending into chaos, a visionary leader takes action. Publisher's Summary
Could you survive a postapocalyptic world?
Jack and Diane were two average Americans living in small towns, or so it seems. Jack is a prepper and has been most of his life. The day started out like any other; Diane and Jack started their morning routines and equipped their everyday carry items. Survival is for the prepared.
But when disaster strikes the US, Jack's lifetime of preparing will be put to the test. Grabbing their two dogs and their bug-out bags, the duo must escape their hometowns and find a safe place to seek shelter. What really happened, and will Jack's years of prepping be enough to keep them all safe?

Post Apocalyptic Survival Fiction Short Story
A friend recently recommended Kevin Barry Maguire's prepper fiction series and I wasn't disappointed in "Aftermath of Disaster: It Has Begun." Though prepper survival fiction usually isn't my taste, I came to find Maguire's vision of the world coming apart more realistic than the post-apocalyptic prepper stories with hordes of zombies.
This prepper survival fiction story starts out with an introduction to Jack, a mild-mannered guy with an intriguing backstory and history of preparedness. When the STHF (insider lingo there), Jack scrambles to gather his girlfriend, Diane, and get going. What makes the story a bit more interesting is that Diane hardly knows Jack and they aren't really to the level of commitment of marriage or long-term planning. This creates an interesting dynamic, I'd love to see play out in the future stories.
Without giving away too much of the storyline, I have to keep this review brief to this synopsis. The US was attacked by radiation from an unknown terrorist organization, poisoning all the citizens. Thankfully, Jack was ready to go just in case. I've already picked up and listened to Aftermath of Disaster: Diggin In and all I can say is it gets MUCH more interesting.
The story was enough to introduce characters and lay the groundwork for what's to come. But, there's enough substance for reader's to feel invested in the story and push onto the next. I highly recommend getting the next part in the series. It makes this story even more interesting. The narrator did an okay job, but I felt like there could've been better character voicing like done in the second book. Four well-earned stars and definitely not a way of reflecting inferior work. It's just that after hearing the second book in the series, it's hard not to feel the first in the series doesn't hold up to the second.
If you're looking for looking for an apocalyptic survival fiction series, then Kevin Barry Maguire's got you covered in the Aftermath of Disaster series!

Totally Awesome
This short story kept my interest and Jack is going to be a good character I think. As for Diane I don't think to much of her at this point unless she changes. Getting ready to listen the next one. Maybe I'll know more about her then. But so far I give this author 5 stars just based on the story and Jack.

Good series starter with terrible narration
The synopsis on Audible sums up the story nicely. This is a serial novel that ends with the initial reaction to a crisis: well paced and well written.
Unfortunately, the narrator has the modulation and cadence of a mediocre speech software program. If this had been longer than 55 minutes, I would have returned the book within 5 minutes of purchase.
I will look for more in this series on my Kindle.
