Publisher's summary

Scarlett Goodwin's world is divided into Before and After. Before she agreed to tutor Tucker Price, college junior Scarlett was introvert, struggling with her social anxiety disorder and determined to not end up living in a trailer park like her mother and her younger sister. A mathematics major, she goes to her classes, to her job in the tutoring lab, and then hides in the apartment she shares with her friend, Caroline.

After junior Tucker Price, Southern University's star soccer player enters the equation, her carefully plotted life is thrown off its axis. Tucker's failing his required College Algebra class. With his eligibility is at risk, the university chancellor dangles an expensive piece of computer software for the math department if Scarlett agrees to privately tutor him. Tucker's bad boy, womanizer reputation makes Scarlett wary of any contact, let alone spending several hours a week in close proximity. But from her first encounter, she realizes Tucker isn't the person everyone else sees. He carries a mountain of secrets which she suspects hold the reason to his self-destructive behavior. But the deeper she delves into the cause of his pain, the deeper she gets sucked into his chaos.

Will Scarlett find the happiness she's looking for, or will she be caught in Tucker's aftermath?

I really liked this one. Great NA

Would you consider the audio edition of After Math to be better than the print version?

I only listened to the audio and have not read the print version even though I own the print copy as well.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tucker. There was more to him than he let the public see.

What does Appelusa McGlynn bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Appelusa McGlynn did a nice job overall. At first her voice sounded nasally, but after while I got used to it. She did Tucker's voice very well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I would have listened to it in one sitting if I had the time. Any chance I got, I grabbed my iPhone and turned on Audibles.

Any additional comments?

This was a nice NA story. Yes, it was probably one that was done a hundred times, but I there was something about the characters and the writing that I really enjoyed.
Scarlett has social anxiety. She is asked to tutor Tucker, the star soccer player at her university. Tucker has a reputation of getting what he wants when he wants it. At first Scarlett does not want to do it, but feels forced since it means money for the math department. Slowly, a friendship starts and I loved that this was not insta-love. I loved that the secrets that each character kept secret were NOT revealed until the very end and what was held until the end was necessary for the story. The scenes when they were training (Q&A) and would talk were my favorite. There was so much more to these characters than they showed to the public. I never read anything by Denise Swank before and I know after listening to AFTER MATH I will. I am not sure if I will read the next book in the series, REDESIGNED. It is about Scarlett's BFF, Caroline. I am not sure how I feel about Caroline. She had her own dating issues, but seemed to have to many opinions about Scarlett's. I know that Caroline was probably just overprotective of Scarlett, but sometimes her attitude annoyed me. She was so judgmental. Caroline seemed like a girl that liked to party at bars. I see that Redesigned has great reviews, but I think I will need to take a break and forget about Caroline for a little bit.

Good read!

This book was very good. Took a few chapters to get into due to the monotone voice of the narrator however despite this it is highly recommended.

Sweet New Adult Romance

Tucker Price is a bad boy with hidden torment and Abby (is it bad that I am not sure I remember her name) is the nerdy girl with hidden depths and a lot of social anxiety. You get their connection from the get-go.

For the audio version, the narrator did an okay job with the different voices. She wasn't always consistent and she had some weird tics, like she would say exscape for escape and that word was said often enough to make me crazy at one point.

Not complete

I enjoyed this book, however the ending seemed too rushed. I would’ve like to hear Tucker’s side of what was happening, not just Scarlet’s.

not happy enough

the characters had a lot of drama in their early life and have a hard time being together too. I like the story line but was too raw and emotional for what I wanted in a story today.

bad narration

I think I would have enjoyed the story better if the narrator didn't sound so monotone and robotic like you never know when the character just thinking or talking out loud it is very frustrating

Loving!

A sexy soccer star gets tutoring from a pretty math nerd who caught his eye..... Scarlett made Tucker respect her then she helped him excel in the classroom, he helps her outside of the classroom and they become friends. He is tortured , really tortured but he in spite of his reputation and status on campus knows how to treat a woman because her treated her well. The friend kind of got on my nerves a little but she was concerned for her friend. I was disappointed in him toward the end but he does right himself and is better for it. I enjoyed this book then looked for another by this author.

Another home run

I love you Denise 💓 another great one! Also I really liked the narrator, I don't care much for the rose gardener narrator but that doesn't hinder my commitment to your writing!

Not for me

This book felt like an immature love story. I never felt invested in the writing or the main characters stories. Waste of time.
