Publisher's summary

Colin Hancock is giving his second chance his best shot. At 28, he's focused only on walking a straight line - getting his teaching degree, working out at the gym religiously, and avoiding all the places and people that proved so destructive in his earlier life. The last thing he's looking for is a serious relationship. But when Maria Sanchez crosses paths with him on a rainswept night in North Carolina, his plans are upended in a way that will rattle the foundations of his carefully structured life. As for Maria, the hardworking lawyer and daughter of Mexican immigrants, Colin will challenge every notion she's ever had about herself and her future, making her question what truly makes her happy.

Before the couple has a chance to envision what a life together might look like, however, menacing reminders of events in Maria's past begin to surface. And as the threat of violence begins to shadow her every step, she and Colin will be tested in increasingly terrifying ways. Will demons from their past destroy the tentative bonds they have forged, or will their love protect them, even in the darkest hour?

See Me is a story of obsession, reinvention, and a love that defies every expectation, reminding us that destiny often rests in our own hands - even in matters of the heart.

Best Book Nicholas Sparks Has Ever Written!

Colin Hancock is a young guy with a fairly dark past. He's giving his second chance in life the best he can, but he still has a problem with anger management. When he meets Maria Sanchez, he is completely overwhelmed with her beauty. Yet, he is also totally honest with her about his past mistakes and the things he has done.

The two of them carry on what seems to be an unlikely relationship and all the while, ironically it's Maria's past that is most haunting. As things become more intense between Maria and Colin and Maria's family, terror strikes the core of all of the couples' values.

The narrator is fantastic, and the book reads like a quick paced mystery. Unlike many of Sparks' sappy love stories with tragic, horrible endings- this book is completely different. I gobbled it up and was mesmerized by the story, and what would happen next.

I never thought I'd like a Sparks book so well- but this one is a keeper!

Sparks fans beware, average book and less than average narration!

This book was ok. It wasn't bad, wasn't good. Didn't love the characters, and felt like I didn't "know" them very well from the get go. The little twist of mystery in the second half of the book was fine, but it was def hard to finish since the ending was rather predictable throughout.

An average book was pretty much ruined by the narration. It was flat, lacked emotion and depth and monotone! Being a southerner myself, Lily's accent was nothing less than appalling! As soon as I heard the narrator speak on her behalf for the first time, I almost turned it off and asked for a refund. But being a NS fan, I gave it a chance. Maria's narration was very weak as well, making her seem timid and non interesting. I am so surprised that the NS brand allowed this narrator to tell one of his stories. I have listened to countless audiobooks and sometimes you don't love the narration, but this is the first time I've seen it ruin an otherwise "ok" story.

My suggestion, if you love NS then read this book, don't listen. It would probably be much more enjoyable!

Good

Great narrator! The story started off slow but it really picked up at the end. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the suspense. Seemed more like a mystery/suspense thriller book than Nicholas Sparks' usual love story type of book. It was good.

Post Divorce Sparks = Dark

Certainly not his typical work. The romantic connections were weak. Never really fell in love with any of the people. Story was okay and although the narrator did a great job, perhaps he wasn't the right fit for this set of characters.

Yawner

I found that 'See Me' was a fairly shallow story. I've listened to a Sparks story or two in my day & have never found them to be earth shaking literary events, but they do what you expect them to. 'See Me' was in my opinion OK, the story was like every other Sparks story (two opposites attracted to each other fall in love against some external strife), the writing was good (Sparks does a fine job at penning contemporary fiction), and the characters were as expected (two middle class out of sorts finding each other). But it wasn't enough.

I think this story could have worked better if 1/3 of the text were edited out. Many passages were too long and started plodding. Other passages did little to push the story forwards and were unneeded. Most of the story circles a mystery/stalking. But the motive in the mystery was tenuous.

Some of the passages move very well. You can see that Sparks has a gift as an author. But too many inconsistent details or obvious hints dropped make this story weak.

Maybe its just me, but whenever the narrator took the main characters voice 'Colin', the guy sounded like he had a lobotomy. Maybe its Nicholas Sparks trying to create an aloof character and the narrator couldn't do anything about it. Either way, Colin comes across as having a border line 60 IQ.

I'm a huge NS fan but this one was just so so.

The story dragged a bit. A lot of eye rolls on my part. I liked Maria's character and portrayal of a strong and loving American Mexican family. I had a hard time liking the story. Not my favorite.

Disappointed

What would have made See Me better?

Atypical Sparks book; well educated female lawyer is shown as a wimp. No depth of character.
I was disappointed

How could the performance have been better?

reader did a great job, the script was the problem.

Decent but far from Sparks' best.

I had this one figured out about half way through. The first and last chapter are narrated with music in the background which I found very distracting and had it continued I prolly wouldn't have finished the book. The narrator was decent. Sadly, was disappointed that this story didn't live up to Sparks' usual tapping into the emotional and was lukewarm romantically at best.

Snooze fest

This was a boring regurgitation of past Spark's books. It felt like a movie script.
