Publisher's Summary

Ten principles for leading your family to true resilience, from the best-selling author of Spartan Up and the CEO/founder of Spartan.

Joe De Sena has spent his life running toward challenge and discomfort. Why? Because how we react to challenging situations defines us and our families. The only tools we have as humans to survive the many peaks and valleys of a full life are preparedness, health, leadership, and most importantly, resilience. Why do so many parents struggle to finish things we start, delay gratification, and protect our health - and why do our kids continue to struggle in every facet of life? Because we haven’t showed them a path to resilience, and we haven’t fought for it ourselves.

In 10 Rules for Resilience, Joe De Sena outlines his 10 principles for leading your family to true resilience, a term he uses for a body and mind that have been carved out of hard work, challenge, and failure. It takes true resilience to approach overwhelming situations with calm and confidence, to not get rattled, anxious, or angry, and even to embrace failure, setbacks, and redirections.

Kick Ass Message

Joe hit so many key points in family dynamics that everyone could benefit from hearing the views mentioned. Not just adults but teenagers as well. At the beginning of the book, some things he said about kids now-a-days made me chuckle(laugh) which is hard to do when reading a book for me. Ya, Joe, you got me! Ha ha.
I’m a self-driven individual who loves a challenge and will take on almost anything, but Joe suggested some areas on the home front where I was lacking but my wife was not. That hit me hard because I thought I was thinking the correct path. 🤷‍♂️ Joe made me think more about each decision I have to better push myself in ways I didn’t think I needed to work on.

Hope this motivates someone else to give this book a listen or read to see what they might find out about themselves.

Thanks Joe.

What the world Needs

My wife is pregnant with our first kid. Been thinking about how to take on this new challenge. This book provides a launch pad for re thinking how to build a family starting from yourself.

At the end of the day the change we want to see in the world or in our family starts with us individually.

Everyone needs to hear this message!

This wouldn't just help you raise a good family and tough kids, this would help fix America if we would live with this attitude.
I am constantly having people ask me how we raised such good kids and we used a lot of the same concepts raising my teenage boys. I have yet to have a single parent who actually listens to anything I tell them. I get one or two steps into the process and they cut me off and tell me that they don't have that philosophy or ideas about parenting and they don't feel it's good for their kids psyche and at the same time their kids are across the room screaming and breaking things. I just shut up and let them continue to be wrong.
Great job Joe!!!

Spot on!

Joe is spot on with his analysis of kids, and more importantly the reasons they are like that.

We implemented quite a few of his recommendations into our family, and the results have been life changing, for the kids and ourselves.

Thank you.

Very powerful message

As a new dad, I am looking for people to lookup to and learn from. Joe de Sena is one of them. Although some of his ideas are extreme (waking up the family at 6am for burpees session) the main idea resonated with me and I wish to echo it with my family. Thanks Joe.

Essential reading if you want resilient kids!!!

I preordered this book because I loved the messaging in Joe's earlier books and boy am I glad that I did. I rated myself as a pretty good Dad. I thought I loved my daughter as much as a Dad could, but I what I'm actually doing is setting her up for some really tough times later in her life. Personally, I align 100% with Joe's views on personal development, strength, grit, integrity and resilience building but I was falling short big time when it came to my daughter. It's not about tough love, it's about real love. Life is hard and who better to teach our kids the hard lessons of life than the ones that are suppose to love them the most. This is an amazing reference book for anyone that wants to build resilience for themselves and for their kids. This is going to be my "go to" gift for my loved ones this Christmas. Thank you Joe, once again!!! You're a true Spartan and one with a big heart.
