in my top 5 favs books of the year fs

There's few things I appreciate & enjoy more than a phenomenal engrossing *thick* series that manages to avoid dragging, has a fresh storyline, is genuinely well written, has an engaging plot and interesting nuanced characters and isnt just some formulaic short easy fluff piece. Not that those types of books don't have a time & place but they're a dime a dozen unlike this series. nor does it fall victim yo the dreaded labeled not a YA bc of s content. violence etc while all the characters act so ridiculously immature it's more akin to a child behavior than a teen, nvm an adult. it's so cringe when what is purported as a book for adults about adults and every1 is so shallow & immature it's painful. I really need a *quality* read after the slim pickings lately and this was perfect.

while I love finding a series with serious page count (and this one isn't giving us just the standard trilogy but SEVEN books, & every installment so far as been extremely worthwhile) my adhd struggles with novels that don't pull me in immediately and can't abide repetive, boring unnecessary bs filler, esp when it accounts for 70% of the book. There's 1 author that seems to have a curse w that- series will start oit amazing to end up boring as sh>t. Anyway, Ms Amber continues to deliver.

We have a lot of gray characters with depth (definitely some OP characters too, ngl, but I personally enjoy that as long ad they're done well and aren't annoying/juvenile/ cringe) and while Dianna remains the MC, the other characters povs, relationships and personal storylines I absolutely love i think it keeps things interesting and it makes the world feel so immersive. the story still feels cohesive the way V. Nicole weaves the characters stories together. It feels so much realier when the MC isn't the only one that has a well fleshed out story. personality & history. stylistically it reminds me of Brandon Sanderson way of the kings the way she has so many moving parts and characters.

(minor spoiler of what you wont see in book 4 but is almost certainly going to be taking a main spot in book 5-spoiler will end after this paragraph if you'd like to skip) speaking of side characters, I'm dying to see Cameron & Xander cross paths again & for their storyline to pickup which is has been set up to be a focal point of the next book pretty sure. I'm also excited to see more of Imogen and Isiah and hoping the rest of the hand will be freed from their mind prisons.

I really enjoy the growth and evolution of the characters as the story goes on. Too often only the MC(s) are fully fleshed out complex characters (sometimes not even them) while every1 else just falls flat or is a tool to further the story in some wah
way.

I could NEVER have guessed where this series was going from book 1. no idea we'd go off world, off *realm* & end up w spaceships that somehow don't feel off in what feels like a fantasy world to me (ik it's modern, but not huge sci-fi person so I was surprised it worked and more so that I liked it)l.)

My only gripe is I felt spoiled by book 3. The end managed to feel resolved but alsp eagerly anticipating the next installment. This ending wasn't so kind and I'm absolutely wrecked knowing she probs stoll has to write book 5. it's not the worst cliffhanger by far, she left us with some hope and a good idea what the next major trials will be, but too many were left in such a bad spot. not hopeless but unresolved for sure. so if ur waiting to start the entire series until there is enough books to be safe, not there yet 😭 or pause after book 3

Overall. this book & series I'm general has made to my best of the year short list, like top 5 easily.

Gods and Monsters

It's been a full 24 hours since I finished this book and I'm still unwell. Amber Nicole did it again. The way she can write a character that you absolutely despise one minute and the next you're starting to feel for them. I'm going to say something that may have sounded crazy in book 1: I love Kaden 🥺
“Do you think I want these feelings? By all means, Brother, cut them from my chest. Carve out the heart that still beats only for her. I beg of thee.”
LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Let's ignore the fact he's saying this about a married woman 🙈 he has potential and I really hope he finds his happiness with someone. Oh and don't get me started on my love for Isaiah (who reminds me of a darker version of Cameron). I just love these characters SO MUCH and all their layers.
With my love for his brothers aside, Samkiel continues his reign as a top tier book boyfriend.

On top of the amazing characters, I feel like you know a book is good when you can't help but pace the room while reading. The numerous twists and turns that happened while reading. The anxiety inducing moments where you have no clue what'll happen next. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor multiple times!!!! I already can't wait for a re-read.
Oh and, as always, Amber LOVES to leave you with the absolute craziest cliffhanger 😭 PLEASE. I need book 5 SOON.

Things I need in book 5:
*Samkiel on a warpath similar to Dianna in Throne of Broken Gods. I'm talking I need mass destruction.
*Isaiah and Cameron bonding: I just really feel like they could be best friends if Cam can look past the whole "enslaving his friends ordeal" 😭
*Neverra and Logan. That's it. I just simply need them.
*Kaden amata???? 👀 Please please please. I just want him to have a happy ending

That ending 🤯🤯🤯🤯

Wow. This series is still amazing. The amount of rage Dianna has is insane and makes this book that much more exciting. The way she loves is so powerful. Her character is written with such passion, layers and strength. How can you not love every single moment of Dianna. The way Samkiel will defend and destroy for her is pure genius. Samkiel is written with such intensity and intention. His growth and hopefulness is admirable. And when he fights for his love, he doesn’t have any limits and I LOVE IT! And Kaden arc redemption….yasssss. The hate you have for Kaden character will soften in the book and I loved it. Even though he is still a villain. He is the morally gray character we all love to hate. Camilla POV was so good and I loved the growth her and Vincent have and the developing love story is gripping and perfect. Nismera is the perfect villain, you hate her and she is written with the perfect despicable and detached personality. She is a train wreck you can’t look away from. And Miska POV was so sweet and beautiful and seeing her grow into her character and power. LOVED IT! Isaiah yes! I love his loyalty I hope that he gets a happily ever after even though he is technically a bad guy. I can’t get enough of this series I am so glad it is not over but now I have to wait for the next book. Amber V Nicole writing is phenomenal and book 4 is keeping me gripped to the edge of my seat. This is a page turner and I loved every single word written in the book. This was my most anticipated read of 2025 and it did not disappoint.

I love this book with every fiber of my being. it is the perfect book for you if you want a strong, powerful, funny, sarcastic, morally grey, and capable FMC then she is YOUR GIRL. If you want a MMC thats better than even Rowan and Xaden, HE IS THE ONEEE. put this read at the TOP of your list. Trust me.
