Resumen del Editor

A former slave fighting for justice. A reclusive warrior who no longer believes it exists. And a dark magic that will entangle their fates.

Ripped from a forgotten homeland as a child, Tisaanah learned how to survive with nothing but a sharp wit and a touch of magic. But the night she tries to buy her freedom, she barely escapes with her life.

Desperate to save the best friend she left behind, Tisaanah journeys to the Orders, the most powerful organizations of magic Wielders in the world. But to join their ranks, she must complete an apprenticeship with Maxantarius Farlione, a handsome and reclusive fire wielder who despises the Orders.

The Orders's intentions are cryptic, and Tisaanah must prove herself under the threat of looming war. But even more dangerous are her growing feelings for Maxantarius. The bloody past he wants to forget may be the key to her future...or the downfall of them both.

But Tisaanah will stop at nothing to save those she abandoned. Even if it means gambling in the Orders's deadly games. Even if it means sacrificing her heart.

Even if it means wielding death itself.

Contains mature themes.

The male narrator is terrible!

Such a shame because the story had me enthralled from page one! The world building and character development was absolutely amazing and I had no issues with the female narrator. However, once the male narrator began the whole book was ruined for me. He managed to make every word he read sound like one long run-on sentence. I could not tell when one thought ended or where dialogue began. My 8 year old would have read this in a more interpretive way than this professional narrator! I will be physically reading the next books.

Great Story but Performance Could have been better

I loved the story. I was very engaged from the start. But my biggest problem is the Male narrator. He was great for the most part I just did not appreciate hearing the breaths in the mic.

A pleasant surprise

I'm actually shocked this book doesn't have more reviews. I think it if it were categorized under "romance" it would. 🤔 I'll admit I had a hard time moving on from ACOTAR. I finally made myself find something else to listen to, and I'm so glad I did. I LOVE the storyline, characters, and the cliff hanger. I can't wait for the next book.

Book 2 isn't recorded yet

Good book. Got lost geographically a few times and missed some key things towards the 75% mark. Book 2 isn't recorded yet, so I'm bummed.

4.5 Stars 🌟

This is the second book that I have read from this author, with that first I read being the first and only book out in her newest series. That book was her brand new series (The Serpent and the Wings of Night (Crowns of Nyaxia Book 1)) which COMPLETELY knocked me off my feet. I immediately looked to see if she had anything else out and found this series so I did not even hesitate to hit the buy button. (and thank goodness it was a completed series)

Thankfully, this book series does have an audio version out as well (the other did not) so I enjoyed alternating between listening and reading.

The tale is about a girl who is bought, stolen, kidnapped...(I'm not even sure what you would call it) by slavers when she is a young girl. She is taken away from her home and family and is the slave of the leader of the largest city in Threll for many years. He once told her when she asked as a child that she could "buy" her freedom with an amount of money that was completely unattainable for someone in her position - she never forgot that and he never expected that to occur.

This female lead, our MC Tissaanah - is an amazing lead female character. She is strong in spirit and will, determined, smart, compassionate...everything that makes you want to root for her. Her life is NOT easy. When she attempts to buy her freedom, let's just say things do not go well.

Without going into spoilers, this story then becomes about her determination to get strong enough to come back and save the other slaves, but especially her best friend that she left behind. Tissaanah has some magic but has never been trained. She finds her way - while dying of injuries- to the land where slaves are free and magic rules. She does not know the language, has EVERYTHING against her and the story really starts from there.

The world building, while parceled out slowly is interesting. The characters are also slowly developed and we begin to learn that all is not what it seems. The other lead - the male MC Max - is a very layered character and there is SO much more to him than originally portrayed.

This book kept my attention from the very beginning. Yes, there are moments of info dumps, but those do not happen too often. I enjoyed the dual narration and I am excited (and if I'm being honest...a little scared) to see what is going to happen next.

So, do I recommend this book?

Absolutely. What are you waiting for?

Excellent Voice Actors

Excellent voice actors! Especially the female actor! The FMC is learning a new language and the female actor did an incredible job with the accent parts!

Great Story

I'm definitely someone who reads reviews on books before I buy something... And I definitely agree with the positive reviews of this book (enough for me to actually write something, lol)... Simple but good premise and good characters and world development. I enjoyed it and would love to read (or listen to, lol) the second book that the epilogue hinted at.

Amazing

I loved this story. If you’re a fan of throne of glass by Sarah J Maas you will love this book. I can’t wait for the rest.

This book was soooo good

I cannot wait to read more! The characters and the way they developed was truly beautiful. I loved going on this journey and seeing what Tissanah can do as well as Max. Plus THEM omg I want to devour this entire trilogy right now.

Love the story…wish there was only one narrator

This is such a wonderful start to a series. But I hate it when they use multiple narrators. I wish all of it was read by the female narrator. The switch is so jarring it takes me out of the story. I listened to the Tissanah parts and read the physical copy of the book for Max’s when the narration changed each time.
