We all know the dangers of sugar and salt: but the danger attributed to the second white crystal has more to do with getting too little of it, not too much. Too little salt can shift the body into semi-starvation mode, causing insulin resistance, and may even cause twice as much fat to be absorbed for every gram that's consumed. Too little salt in certain populations can also actually increase blood pressure as well as resting heart rate.

Most diet books teach you to set short-term weight loss goals. Whether low-carb or low-fat, the typical plan goes like this: restrict your food choices, exercise until exhaustion, and swallow stacks of supplements. These “solutions” do a better job of lightening your wallet than lightening you. Meanwhile, the healthcare industry fails to prevent chronic disease. Rather than showing people how to remain healthy and prevent illness through proper nutrition, the system offers drugs and surgery to manage symptoms.

Almost every day we are bombarded with the seemingly incontrovertible message that we must reduce our consumption of meat and dairy—or eliminate them from our diets altogether. But what if the pervasive message that the plant-based diet will improve our health and save the planet is misleading—or even false? What if removing animal foods from our diet is a serious threat to human health, and a red herring in the fight against climate change.

And your key to vibrant health may be quitting these so-called superfoods. After suffering for decades from chronic health problems, nutrition educator Sally K. Norton, MPH, discovered that the culprits were the chemical toxins called oxalates lurking within her “healthy,” organic plant-heavy diet.

Resumen del Editor
After years on a high carbohydrate diet, intense running sessions, struggling with an eating disorder, and feeling the throes of anxiety and depression, Michelle knew she needed to make a change. Does the “One size fits all” food pyramid work for everyone? Are there other options, such as a low carbohydrate or Ketogenic diet that may mitigate our risk for metabolic illness and restore us to health? Could this way of eating reverse diabetes, alleviate depression, pave the way to heal eating disorders, allow us to age gracefully, and prevent heart disease? Why as a nation is our health failing, and why aren’t the nutrition guidelines updating with the science?
Registered dietitian, Michelle Hurn, dives in and offers easy-to-understand information while covering the latest research and clinical studies. In addition, personal testimonies and actionable next steps offer hope and inspiration for you on your health journey.

Too little salt in certain populations can also actually increase blood pressure as well as resting heart rate.

We’ve been told that a vegetarian diet can feed the hungry, honor the animals, and save the planet. Lierre Keith believed in that plant-based diet and spent twenty years as a vegan. But in The Vegetarian Myth, she argues that we’ve been led astray - not by our longings for a just and sustainable world, but by our ignorance. e truth is that agriculture is a relentless assault against the planet, and more of the same won’t save us. In service to annual grains, humans have devastated prairies and forests, driven countless species extinct, altered the climate, and destroyed the topsoil - the basis of life itself....

Refreshing
Dr. Annette Boz recommended this book and wow. So inspiring to hear an author present her own story and share the ups and downs and also the realities of the medical industry. Nutritionists created the food pyramid that just made us sick. Having a family that’s gone through so many illness and having doctors just prescribe medicine, makes you realize that There has to be something more. Thank you for a terrific book. I’ll be reading it again and again. Absolutely great information.

A compelling read
Love that it was narrated by the author, which makes the content come alive. Was expecting a book on keto, and was surprised to learn about Michelle’s journey to carnivore. A beautiful heart, wrenching story of reclaiming one’s health. A must read for every dietitian! From a fellow Dietitian.

Pure awesomeness
Michelle does a great job simplifying diseases and how a low carb/high fat diet can benefit so many. good examples and hilarious analogies to make the science against carbs easier to understand!

Good read for athletes
The information in this book is applicable to everyone, but especially to those people who are athletic and wish to remain in top form for competition. There is also a lot hope and information for those that are recovering from various eating disorders.
The pronunciation of some of the words in the narration is distracting, but it doesn’t detract for the information given.

Finally Diet Truth
I concur with the author about the carnivore diet, how the American food choices got screwed up to being the opposite of what humans need to thrive, and how the medical system perpetuates poor diet and drugs.
Although she conveyed her information well, it was difficult to listen to her monotone, child-like voice; she should have hired a narrator.
