The post-mortem reveals that the woman was stabbed before the fire was started, and soon Scarpetta and her colleagues are called out to the scene of another fire and another murder.

When her lover Benton Wesley disappears while following up a tip-off, Scarpetta, with sudden appalling clarity, sees that Carrie has set up a scenario in which she has the upper hand and can manipulate them all.

Narration is horrendous!

This is a great book! Unfortunately, the narrator made it extremely difficult to listen to it, and almost ruined the story for me. I regret purchasing this book, and would recommend you read it yourself instead of struggling through this narrated version.

Kay Scarpetta sounded weaker and desperate than before. sensitive when’s always been so commanding.

the narrator was awful! u shud have never changed the narrator in the middle of a series of books. this women is terrible!!! I wasn't even gunna finish listening to this book.

bad narrator

I didnt like the way the way the narrator read the book. it was a choppy with pauses between words. The narrator made the Dr whining and sounded very unsure of her self.

Story is amazing/narrator horrible

Narrator is horrible. I love listening to audio books on my rides to and from work but this one made it difficult to follow.
