Stereotyped

If you are buying this because you took the Kolbe index and got told your rating is "Quality Controller", here's the main idea here: you shouldn't be in any job that requires you sit behind a desk. You should look for work that requires you to maintain machinery and fix things and perhaps produce a product, designed by someone else, to their specifications. According to this, you'll make sure it gets done on time, to specs. Or you could be a fireman, maybe a police officer.... etc. etc. etc.

I have no problem with those jobs, they are honorable ones. The issue is, I nearly gave this to someone who had been categorized by the Kolby index as this "type", and who happens to be a highly paid technical professional, who works behind a desk, and doesn't produce anything that can be touched. He does project management, is responsible for dealing with some very complex systems, and there is no way his job duties would be described by this program. ANd he is very happy and beloved by his company. This CD does not address at all what he does. And per her advice, he shouldn't be in it!
Point is, other career assessment instruments that have been validated by peer-reviewed research understand that people who like to "work with things" include more than firefighters and policemen and nurses (this sounds like a kindergartner's career counseling guide). The Kolbe company's lack of research on its product is showing. Do not buy this as a career guide. It may have some useful tips (lots of them will tell you to take good care of your tools!) on managing your time and inclinations, but you may need to listen around your offense threshold.
