In addition to strength, steel, and courage, a hero discovers he's in need of a friend, in the first installment of a daring and dangerous fantasy adventure.

When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has...Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere.

Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway. Naturally, Daniel is classified as a "hero," while Orrin is—also naturally—relegated to the fantasy equivalent of "bleh." Nothing new there.

But in this realm populated with lethal foes both inhuman and inescapable, sticking together matters more than ever, and soon Daniel and Orrin will discover more about themselves—and each other—than either one thought possible. In fact, Orrin just might find the confidence and strength to become something other than your average sidekick....

The first volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than 600,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

The main story itself was pretty good, a typical isekai book. The main problem is the narration. for some reason every class and skill name is given a robot voice. like if he was reading a description or a status page it would be fine, but in a middle of a conversation it's jarring. For example one MC would take like "we need to hide your a [HERO] since they can use [INVESTIGATION] to see your [HERO] class".

The Robot voice sucks

this book has so much potential. the plot was not greatly unique but it was a good read. I do not think I will read the second one,al as I had to take breaks from this 1 read. I had difficulty falling I to this fantasy world as the narrator used and was allowed to publish this audio with them constantly saying "hero" and all the action prompt in a robotic voice. although I have heard this voice being used during Stat reading in other books, this book does it EVERY TIME THE WORD IS SAID!

The Random Robotuc Voice

Both the Author and Narrator did wonderfully in bringing this audiobook into being. One prominent flaw which took Nick's performance from a 5 to a 3 is the copy paste insertion of monotone skill, ability, and class names mid conversation. Honestly, if the original audio were not edited to include this poor decision, the book would have gotten a solid 5

Great story, annoying skill narration

the story

I liked the story. It was fast paced and interesting, nothing new in the RPG world but fun. Told from the perspectives of a teenager it was sometimes hard to remember that they’re still kids. But it was great.
One thing I didn’t like of the audible was the constant sound inserts to describe skills, abilities, etc. it always threw off the flow and it caused a lot of confusion when talking about multiple things. I hope that won’t be a consistent addition as it got quite annoying to her [___] in a monotonous robotic voice of the VA in the middle of a female speaking.

Fun take on the now popular isekais
