HUGE Potential but a miss for me...

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

So, I'll start by saying this book was kind of a miss for me... As someone who loves the zombie apocalypse genre, and loves new interpretations of it, this left me wanting...

I felt the story jumped around too much and too many story lines were left dangling in the wind with no real sense of resolution.

That being said, the Eric Bryan Moore was outstanding, he did great voices for each main character, had a dynamic voice and made things interesting. It really was the story fragmentation and lack of any real resolution that left me feeling like this was only half the book. I'm fine with cliffhanger endings, but you have to leave the audience with some sort of stopping point.

If the second book actually progresses the plot and leaves the story at some sort of stopping point (and was packaged with the first book) I would give this a huge 5 stars and say this is a must read/listen.

I give it a 3 for now. If the series heads in the right direction it may be a really great read! Right now is too soon to decide. Give it a shot.

In a way this book is kind of a mess, but it definitely shows potential and so since audible doesn't allow half stars I'm rounding up. If you the ad copy for the book you are led to believe this book going to be about a guy named Wim, and while Wim is the central character in more chapters than another character, I wouldn't say it's a book about him or his adventures. There is something like 40 or so chapters and yet a ton of them have nothing to do with Wim. We see him in the first chapter, but I don't think we get back to him until 12 or so chapters later, and then after that we don't see him again for another long while. What we see instead is chapter after chapter after chapter in which new characters are introduced. I'm not exaggerating when I say that if felt that at the halfway point of the book we were still getting character introduction chapters. The vast majority of the book seemed to be chapters in which we meet a character see they notice that something is wrong, people seem sick. Then the next time we come around to that character they are coming face to face with the fact that the zombie apocalypse is breaking out. While all the characters are fairly interesting, and the action is well done, quite a bit gore (exactly what you'd want from zombie book). I can't help feeling that is was a missed opportunity. I enjoyed Mr. Urban's style, but I kind of wish he'd stayed focused on just a few characters rather than introducing us to a dozen+ different characters. I can see introducing a ton of characters if you are going to have them all come together at some point, but by the end only 2 or 3 of the characters had even come together. Now I have to assume he was laying the ground work for future books in the series, but I'd have preferred him to focus on only a couple, tell their stories and then in later volumes as he brings more characters in the main character's world he could have told us a bit about their ordeal when the zombies rose up ... or not, not every character needs a complete backstory.

But as I said, I liked the style and found almost everyone's story to be interesting, just felt more than an anthology of outbreak stories rather than a single novel and I am definitely interested to see what happens to some of these characters, so I will probably be checking out the second book in the series.

This is the first book I have heard narrated by Eric Moore. He does a really good job. Has a good clean delivery, and definitely helped bring the story to life. I would definitely listen to him again.

an ok read

it was interesting but I was looking for more but I guess it was the beginning and all the characters were getting introduced, let's see what the next book have in store

Very Good Introduction to Tony Urban.

I really liked this first book of this series. Nice to listen to Zombie Apocalypse in this format. Good story and characters. Book 2 here I come.

Not just another zombie story. Exciting and enthralling! I’ve listened to it twice so far!

A terrorist has l released a biohazard which is extremely toxic and easily spread. We have a mishmash of characters , very well written, with the story of their survival. Lots of action, close calls and thousands of zombies. Zombies role the earth .. an exciting audiobook to listen to.
