Publisher's summary

Somehow, I've landed myself a do-over and this time, we aren't screwing it up. This time, I don't want her all to myself. This time, we're going to share.

Mia

The second the Boston Bruins star forward steps out of the villa bathroom, looking like a god in nothing but a low-slung towel… I should turn around and beg for a different room.

When his tall, dark, and broody teammate walks in offering to share the villa… I should run.

And when they offer me one weekend of no-strings-attached fun… I should absolutely say no.

But I've never been good at doing what I'm supposed to.

Alex

Three nights wasn't enough. Not when I still wake up dreaming about her. About them.

Imagine our surprise when our new neighbor ends up being the girl we've both been obsessing over.

This time, we won't lose her.

This time, things will be different.

This time… we're ready to share.

River

They're mine to own, possess, consume. They just don't know it yet.

Rules of Our Own is an interconnected standalone NHL Hockey Romance with an MMF why-choose style HEA. It features forced proximity and bi-awakening, where the guys are as obsessed with her as they are with each other.

🔥🔥🔥

Bi-awakening story lines are becoming my new favorites 🥵 This was also my first hockey romance and it didn’t disappoint.

Loved this story

Everything about this book was perfect! It had the perfect amount of spice, the perfect amount of conflict, and the story wrapped up beautifully. The narrators did a perfect job as well.

Best Read of 2024

I loved Alex, River & Mia since book one, and was so worried about the happy ever after. BUT BABY J.Wilder did not disappoint at all. This book had all the feels, hot steamy, sexy, & heart warming all in one.

Definitely my #1 read of 2024

MMF Perfection!

This gem is absolute perfection! The story sucks you right in from the start and doesn't leave you waiting long for the spice to hit. Narration is fantastic - Teddy Hamilton can do no wrong. I didn't want this to end.

Great narrators for this why choose hockey romance

Alex and River were both drafted by the Bruins. When they were younger each guy was attracted to Mia, but at that time Alex was very possessive. Years later, when she comes back into their lives, the attraction between all 3 of them finally ignites as they navigate through their MFM and MMF relationships. Teddy Hamilton and Stella Hunter do a glorious job bringing the characters to life!

Good smut

The smut in this was good but the story was meh. I did not like Mia’s habit of ghosting everyone and then wallowing in self pity. It made the drama feel forced and unnecessary. River felt like the third wheel. Their relation felt very imbalanced to me. I would have preferred this book to be about Alex and River falling in love without Mia. Thrupples are tricky. It’s too easy for one person to become the third wheel. I think RH romances with 4+ people feel more balanced.

It's a lot of smut (but good smut!) Not much plot

I love a spicy book, but this one was mostly spice. There's just enough plot that it hangs together as a cohesive narrative (and it does have a cohesive narrative), making it a solid 3 star read for when you want something light, smutty, and feel-good.

There's very little hockey. The players could've been any other sport or profession. I really wish the book had made some mention of homophobia in sports given that River is a bisexual professional athlete. We have no idea if he's out of the closet to anyone but his teammates. Later in the book, Alex is told by management that he needs to clean up his public image and somehow coming out as being in a relationship with a man and a woman has no effect on said image. To call it a "biseuxal awakening" is generous. He spends almost no time exploring his feelings about his sexuality or identity except to remark on River being hot. Also, nobody says or has heard of polyamory. It made the world feel flimsy and too much like a Hallmark movie.

That said, if you want spice, there's lots of it and it's good! 30-40 minute chapters of just spice and they manage to vary things enough to keep it interesting.

This is very much a sanitized version of queerness written for a straight audience. It doesn't explore themes of polyamory and bisexuality outside of sex scenes. But if you want a hockey flavored Hallmark movie, it's a good shout.

The narrators do an excellent job. Teddy Hamilton is particularly engaging and Stella Hunter made Mia feel like a real woman. I do wish the author had hired 2 male narrators as it's hard to tell which one is speaking and I lost track of the PoV character a few times. Thankfully the chapters are labeled with the PoV character's name.
