I’ve been obsessed with the crossover fiction genre ever since I read Kim Newman’s Anno Dracula series. Because of that obsession I’ve read a lot of crossover fiction stories and more often than not they’re terrible. Usually they become so bogged down in the crossovers that the story gets lost in a sea of references. This is the first series I’ve read that matches Newman’s magnum opus. The characters are rich, distinct, relatable, and remarkably easy to invest in. The story is interesting too and I’m anxious to see what’s next but it’s the characters that make this series as addictive as it is and there’s nothing wrong with that. If you’re a fan of crossover fiction, want something empowering, or just want something with great characters to pass the time then definitely pick it up.

This Series features so many strong women across literature from Hawthorne to Shelley and is already one that I find myself thinking about repeatedly long after I’m done. The attention to not only the “stories of origin” but rich historical details had me completely enraptured. I highly recommend this series if you love speculative historical fiction based on literature. Everything else I want to gush about is a spoiler....and I don’t do spoilers.

What an interesting spin on old classics. Just when you think how many more ways can Sherlock Holmes be done without being yada yada yada.. this author does it.. This book is an amalgamation of literary classics spun into a whole new "classic"
I don't care for female narrators. The male characters always end up sounding like pervy old men missing teeth.
Kate Reading does a superb job of giving each character ( and there are many) their own unique and readily identifiable voice/persona/character .
Well done. If book four were to come available I would buy without hesitation

Book 2 expands the fantastical world of the Athena Club out of London throughout Europe, adding strange new characters and it's hard to guess who is an ally and who an enemy. These books are just fun and Kate Reading does a great job distinguishing voices and accents of so many diverse characters.
