In this follow-up to #1 New York Times bestselling author Ruth Ware’s multi-million copy mega-hit The Woman in Cabin 10, Lo Blacklock returns to attend the opening of a luxury hotel, only to find herself in a white-knuckled race across Europe.

When the invitation to attend the press opening of a luxury Swiss hotel—owned by reclusive billionaire Marcus Leidmann—arrives, it’s like the answer to a prayer. Three years after the birth of her youngest child, Lo Blacklock is ready to reestablish her journalism career, but post-pandemic travel journalism is a very different landscape from the one she left ten years ago.

The chateau on the shores of Lake Geneva is everything Lo’s ever dreamed of, and she hopes she can snag an interview with Marcus. Unfortunately, he proves to be even more difficult to pin down than his reputation suggests. When Lo gets a late-night call asking her to come to Marcus’s hotel room, she agrees despite her own misgivings. She’s greeted, however, by a woman claiming to be Marcus’s mistress, and in life-or-death jeopardy.

What follows is a thrilling pursuit across Europe, forcing Lo to ask herself just how much she’s willing to sacrifice to save this woman…and if she can even trust her?

the voices of the kids, while few and sprinkled were unbearable. I usually love this author/narrator combo but this was harsh

Voices were hard to tolerate

Performance: New York accents were horrible and forced and the kids voices were grating. Definitely not Imogene’s best—I usually love her narration!!

Plot: felt predictable and too contrived. Lo’s story was fine where it left off in Cabin 10. Lo also was super annoying with inner monologues and just being a moron. It’s definitely not my favorite Ware book.

Love Ruth Ware this one was a disappointment…

I should have re-read the woman in cabin 10 before this one, but because I needed to but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I remembered the story more precisely. Another great Ruth Ware read! I also adore Imogen Church and her voice/acting… and her “whiny child” voice was so good that I hated it, if that makes sense? But I am the person that fast forwards through babies crying in movies. Anyway, 5 stars!

Loved it!

I used to love Ruth Ware. I had a hard time figuring out whether this was a mediocre story or it was simply ruined by the narration; the book felt interminable. Lots of reviewers found the children's voices irritating, but at least they were minor characters. The husband's supposed Brooklyn accent made me wince it was so terrible--I've spent my entire life in NYC--not to mention that 40-year-olds no longer have Brooklyn accents. I could barely even stand the heroine's British accent, it felt grating and a little dumb. Last time I buy an audio book without looking at reviews!!

Very Irritating Narration

The plot moved way too slow for me to really sink my teeth into the book. Additionally, the cartoon like character voices of the narrator were very offputting. The whiny child somehow was even more uncomfortable than a real life toddler tantrum, and the overly dramatic food critic sealed my decision to to jump ship from finishing the book.

slow moving and cartoonish voices
