Resumen del Editor

From New York Times best-selling author of the "twisty-mystery" (Vulture) novel In a Dark, Dark Wood comes The Woman in Cabin 10, an equally suspenseful and haunting novel from Ruth Ware - this time set at sea.

In this tightly wound, enthralling story reminiscent of Agatha Christie's works, Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first Lo's stay is nothing but pleasant: The cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, gray skies fall, and Lo witnesses what she can describe only as a dark and terrifying nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem? All passengers remain accounted for - and so the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo's desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong.

With surprising twists, spine-tingling turns, and a setting that proves as uncomfortably claustrophobic as it is eerily beautiful, Ruth Ware offers up another taut and intense listen in The Woman in Cabin 10 - one that will leave even the most sure-footed listener restlessly uneasy long after the last minute ends.

Wonderful

Fantastic whodunnit that caused me to listen to the audiobook for hours without stopping. Great story.

Slow start...But worth it

It took me awhile to get started with this book. My first experience with Ruth Ware was in the reading of "Dark, Dark Wood" checked out from my local library. I so enjoyed that book. I love her style of mystery. Almost gave up on this one BUT I kept reading and did not stop until I had finished. So glad I did. The ending to me was perfect!

Suspenseful trip!

I wanted to smack Laura at times! Some of those choices she made were insane! Though this moves the story along and made for a lot of suspense. Not scary but left you wanting to hear more! Great book!

Woman in cabin 10

Disappointed. A friend recommended this too me and I was looking forward to readind. This story took forever to develop and did not grab my interest. The " reveal" was tedious.

All talk, little action

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. It takes too long to set up characters and backstory. Very little plot.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

That was the only part of the book we really enjoyed. Well done.

What does Imogen Church bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is an excellent narrator - does a wide variety of voices and accents. Excellent performance.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes. Two hours is about the right amount of time to devote to the story.

Sadly disappointed

I bought this book without listening to the sample or reading any reviews because I liked In a dark, dark wood. However, this was not the same. The narrator might not be as bad as I felt she was, but because the main character is hard to like, I really struggled to like the narrator. I found myself talking back to the audio as Imogen Church recounted Lo's inner monologue. I really struggled to care about what was actually happening to Lo because the entire time it felt like she was just saying "woe is me." The entire book is her just saying how unbelievably tired she is, and it's honestly very frustrating to listen to. The story itself is not bad, although I was expecting a little more from it. Maybe I would have liked the book more if I had read it personally instead of listening to someone complain for 11 hours.

Will leave you as tired as the character is..

Would you try another book from Ruth Ware and/or Imogen Church?

Probably not, no. The story is mind-numbingly slow for the thriller it claims to be and the main character is unlikeable to the point of irritation.

Would you ever listen to anything by Ruth Ware again?

No. I didn't care for this story or the way it was written. For the slow pace the story took, more detail should have been included. Instead all we get is the character complaining about how tired she is.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Imogen Church?

Maybe, but I wouldn't seek her out.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No. The suspense in this story is mainly psychological, and I question how that would translate on screen.

Any additional comments?

The last quarter of this book is rather good, which is a shame since the book took SO long to get going. If you're willing to sit through a slow burn, this may be for you.

Disappointing…

Any additional comments?

I was so looking forward to this book, I pre-ordered it and everything. It is a huge let down. There's no mystery or thrill, just a bunch of people on a boat … An incredibly intricate expensive sounding boat.

Annoying main character and weak narrator

I really struggled with the main character because of her lack of logic and dumb decisions. I understand she had PTSD from a recent traumatic experience, but apparently I still couldn’t stand her stupidity. Also, I wasn’t a fan of the narrator’s voice for the male characters, even some female characters with foreign accents.

This was a very interesting book. Overall, I thought it was great! Kept me on my toes for sure. There were a few inconsistencies, but overall I would recommend.
