The perfect thriller to read with your toes in the sand while looking over your shoulder.” —The View

Don’t miss the instant New York Times bestseller from Megan Miranda, where a mother’s secrets, campus mysteries, and long-hidden truths ignite a haunting legacy.

Beckett Bowery never thought she’d return to Wyatt Valley, a picturesque college town in the Virginia mountains steeped in tradition. Her roots there were strong: Beckett’s parents taught at the college, and she never even imagined studying anywhere else—until a tragedy her senior year ended with two local men dead, and her roommate on the run, never to be seen again…

For the last two decades, Beckett has done her best to keep her distance. Then her daughter, Delilah, secretly applies to Wyatt College and earns a full scholarship, and Beckett can only hope that her lingering fears are unfounded. But deep down she knows that Wyatt Valley has a long memory, and that the past isn’t the only dangerous thing in town…

Reseñas de la Crítica

"In this mystery, Beckett and her college roommate are accused by the London Police of setting a fire that killed two men. The charges are dropped, but the emotional damage is done—then, Beckett’s roommate at Wyatt College disappears. Beckett finishes college and never returns—until her daughter, Delilah, receives a scholarship to Wyatt. Narrator Cassandra Campbell’s expertise in building suspense is strikingly on display in her portrayal of Beckett. She quickens her pace and performs whispered thoughts and sharp intakes of breath when the police find her roommate dead in the local quarry. Beckett’s mounting panic will have listeners glued to their earbuds. Golden Voice Campbell’s meticulous characterizations lend reality to all the characters portrayed. This is a stunning example of her craftmanship."

I had a little trouble getting into the story at the very beginning, but once the inciting incident happened I was hooked and couldn’t put it down.

Enjoyed going back and forth from reading and listen. Looking forward to the next book by Megan Miranda.

I have read all of Megan Miranda’s books since 2012, preordering the most recent ones. You Belong Here was just not the quality of her other novels, it is my least favorite and the only one deserving of less than 4 stars.

The setting was in the Virginia mountains, confined to a college campus with wooded trails to a quarry, but lacked any more interesting details that would have helped the listener to visualize it.

The timeline when back and forth between the early 2000’s and 2025, with a daughter’s college experience entwining with her mother’s two decades earlier.

The plot was not very unique, small town sheriff portrayed as an idiot so a woman had to take an unsolved crime into her own hands. The mystery was simple, not complex enough for an avid mystery reader, even though some red herrings and key omitted facts kept it from being predictable.

There is more than one twist starting around chapter 25, but all were ridiculously farfetched. There are endless red herrings, using coincidences and making all characters’ suspect at some point.

I was very disappointed with the narration. I don’t want to judge the author on the narration, but Cassandra Campbell’s voice was not a fit for a mystery. Her voice was sing-songy and she had great difficulty portraying and transitioning between multiple gender and age voices. The 40-something sheriff sounded like a 95-year-old man, Trevor sounded like a woman, and 18-year-old Delilah sounded like a whiny 6-year-old. Comparing again to some of Miranda’s previous novels where Rebekkah Ross was outstanding, with the perfect ominous mystery voice and smooth transitions between characters.

The ending was one of the most unsatisfying I have ever read. It became convoluted in the rushed last 1 hour of the novel, as Miranda tried desperately to fill so many plot holes and bring closure to all the red herrings and preposterous scenarios she had presented to disguise the final villain.

Only poorly written one of all Miranda's novels.

I pre-ordered this and the anticipation was intense. Unfortunately, I was sadly disappointed. The story line is the same as the majority of her other books (think “All the Missing Girls”) but not as good. I was hoping for a comeback after “Daughter Of Mine,” but it’s getting old. To top it all off, the narrator’s voice didn’t fit the character.

Disappointed

I usually love Megan Miranda novels, but this one was not worth a credit. The story was boring and the culprit was very predictable.
