Resumen del Editor

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the “claustrophobic spine-tingler” (People) One by One returns with an unputdownable mystery following a woman on the search for answers a decade after her friend’s murder.

April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford.

Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

Now, a decade later, Hannah and Will are expecting their first child, and the man convicted of killing April, former Oxford porter John Neville, has died in prison. Relieved to have finally put the past behind her, Hannah’s world is rocked when a young journalist comes knocking and presents new evidence that Neville may have been innocent. As Hannah reconnects with old friends and delves deeper into the mystery of April’s death, she realizes that the friends she thought she knew all have something to hide…including a murder.

“The Agatha Christie of our generation” (David Baldacci, #1 New York Times bestselling author) proves once again that she is “as ingenious and indefatigable as the Queen of Crime” (The Washington Post) with this propulsive murder mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Could’ve been a slam dunk!

Ware + Church could only equal success- but unfortunately did not add up this time. The story - though great-seriously dragged & I wanted so badly to love it!

Echo? Anyone???

I feel like this was read from inside a bathtub. I almost had to turn it off but I really enjoy Ruth Ware so I just kept trudging through.

Another triumph

I am a big fan of Ruth Ware novels. But this one…. This story had me guessing all the way through. There were so many twists and different points of view. It was brilliant. I appreciated the back and forth from the past and the present. It was like working a maze backwards only to then find another maze entirely once you thought you had it figured out.

Hard to Put Down

There were so many twists and turns! Just when I was sure who did it, surprise! Very creative storyline. The narrator was amazing with so. many voices, capturing the personalities of each of the characters.

Good plot; way too wordy

The story would have been more enjoyable had the author not padded the story with constant repetitions and use of flashbacks as nauseam.

Hard to love

I was looking forward to Ruth Ware’s new release! Sadly disappointed in the lack of spine In the characters particularly Hannah’s. Very repetitive regarding flushing of face and racking of fingers through hair. Pretty slow moving and whiny overall.

Good mystery

Good murder mystery but long winded. I think there was a little too much details in the story

Guessed "who dun it" way too early

This was... weird. I mean... not awful-awful, and there's a REASON for pretty much everything Ware reveals to the reader (some is misdirection, some of it is actually important) but what I think a lot of people are missing is that the way Hannah is written is actually very in-line with PTSD and anxiety.
**Possible spoilers**
The way April is written isn't surprising, either, she's a walking cry for attention. Inattentive parents, she's always just buying things to try to make herself feel better, CLINGING to the people around her... She's manipulative, she's selfish BUT occasionally generous, usually very publicly. Except with Hannah. Other times, she's very "lost little girl." 🤷‍♀️

Just when you think you’ve figured it out…

It is hard to find a book, these days, that will trick me. From the beginning, I thought I had it figured out. Then my mind changed, and changed again. It’s an easy listen that keeps you guessing!

The story was twice as long as it needed to be.

I got so tired of Hanna’s whining, I nearly stopped listening. But I wanted to know how the author would put an end to my misery.
