Publisher's summary

Paradise has no protection from a hacker with a hidden agenda.

Special agent Sophie Ang's emotions are battered by a child kidnapping case that goes badly wrong. In tracking the criminal ring, her rogue data analysis program D.A.V.I.D. identifies an anomaly that leads her into a cat-and-mouse game Online with a deadly enemy whose motives are unclear. The chase lures her through dark corridors of cyberspace into a confrontation with the violence from her past that sent her fleeing to the United States. She'll need every skill she's learned to defeat her worst nightmare - and the stakes couldn't be higher.

Critic reviews

"Toby Neal has created a wonderfully rounded action heroine with everything: looks, brains, mixed martial arts prowess, and the ability to swear proficiently in Thai and English. Fans of the genre will love FBI agent Sophie Ang, as well as the tangled web she must negotiate in the tropical setting of Hawaii." (Russell Blake, New York Times and USA Today best-selling author)

Like the Book

But I far prefer Sara Malia Hatfield (the reader of the Lei series) as narrator.

couldn't do this narration!

I love the Lei Crime series so was eager for this one. But, I couldn't stand the Sonja Field narration. I listen to audiobooks while I drive several hundred miles a day but I'm actually glad this whole series isn't available on audio because I'd be trying to force myself to listen. Sonja has Marcella sounding like an inner city thug and the accents everyone has were too similar and irritating. I could probably handle it if general narration was not accented. I have 2 more audiobooks to get through then I hope I can find time to read the rest of this series. I hate writing bad reviews but I just couldn't handle this narration.

Great suspense!

Sophie is a badass! The author did a great job showing her strength as well as her vulnerability. I definitely will continue with this series!!

Eh.

Just ok. No real excitement except for once. No true suspense. Just ok. I forced myself to finish.

New series, new voice

I am a huge fan of Toby Neal and have listened to all her other books/series. Wired In is my first in this series that focuses on Sophie Ang, who was also a part of the Lei Texeira series.

I listen to hundreds of audio books a year, mostly while I'm doing other things. I found that this story probably needed my undivided attention, because I was mostly confused about who was doing what and to whom, which doesn't mean this is a bad book, it was just harder to follow (for me). I'm just sharing my experience, and this may not be the case for others.

BUT...having listened to all the other books that featured Sophie and some of the other characters in this story, I am vastly disappointed that the reader is so much different than Sarah Malia Hatfield that the characters seem very different. For example, in the Lei Texeira series, Marcella sounded (to me) like a sophisticated, educated woman. In this book, Marcella's voice and demeanor are so different, she comes across like a tough street cop. Pono no longer has an Hawaiian lilt to his speech, nor does the lawyer (whose name I don't recall now) that was also featured in the other series. If you are listening to this book before hearing the other series, this probably won't be a problem for you, but it's really distracting for me. I plan to listen to the second book in this series, and if I can't make peace with the differences in how these characters come across, I will most likely not finish this series.
