Publisher's summary

John Wagner was a misfit, a bully, a man without a future until he discovered he wasn’t a man at all. He was genetically a Lycan, part werewolf, part human. Taken in and tutored by an organization that protected others like him, they now faced a real threat from a group of demon-hunting killer monks who had sworn to rid the world of his kind.

story great, narrator a lil flat

lil hard to pay atten with the lack of inflection of the narrators voice, but dont let that deter you.

not overtly sexual and classy action and survival.

Unique & Dark Paranormal Story

This was my first experience with Jim Miller's work, and it was an unusual story. There were things I liked about the tale. It was original and creative in the way that werewolves were portrayed. It spotlighted the role of discrimination in society and its harmful effects. The issue that I had was that the protagonist overcame his obstacles too easily. Ward Paxton's narration was fine. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Not Your Typical Werewolf!

John Wagner was different from everyone else, and it showed in his actions, emotions, and career. Always knocked back two steps for every forward movement until he is recruited by a unique organization. One that protects their own kind – Lycans! Desire to lead world dominance tends to bring the players out of the woodwork and this is no different, amongst the various groups of Lycans identified by their purebred status, and a group of fanatical monks the fight is on to rule. John is faced with decisions and the surprising release of his alpha status.

Jim Miller, the author, takes his time unfolding the dramatic storyline while building characters and plot twists. The dialogue fits perfectly with the characters and story. I found the growth of John to be the most compelling and his growth was multifaceted. The author, whether intentional or not, calls attention to the different levels of bigotry and hatred.
The narrator, Ward Paxton delivers an impressive performance giving each character a unique voice and bringing their personalities to life. His delivery is smooth and authoritative when needed. His performance enhanced the book.

Jim Miller intermingles successfully the myth of werewolves, real-life bigotry, and more into a compelling story.

I'm sorry, but I wasn't thrilled...

I am a big fan of fantasy. this looked interesting, but the performance was not impressive. The voice actor while reading seemed to be saying it all like it was his second language. Choppy and robotic, and the fantasy words when used just seemed foreign to him.

bit of a spoiler,
it got weird near the end... plus a bit simple and rushed...
