Publisher's summary

In the high-tech laboratories of tomorrow a new breed of super-soldier is born!

The brutal face of warfare has been dramatically altered. Armored giants now roam the explosive fields of battle. Massive instruments of devastation with computer minds inseparably linked with the brainwaves of their human masters. They are the Warbots. Men and machines combined to create the most lethal warriors in the history of armed conflict.

But a monstrous challenge emerges for the mechanical gladiators emanating from a country that technology forgot. As Captain Curt Carson leads his robot infantry in a daring attempt to rescue 105 hostages from the sadistic clutches of a bloodthirsty terrorist army, the soldiers of tomorrow face the butchers of yesterday in a battle for the future of the free world.

The first book in a 12-part series that has been out of print for many years is now back!

Oddly Enjoyable

A narrator I follow closely on here and FB, KC Johnston, suggested Sean Dureggers narration, and specifically this book.

Story 4Stars. It's a good story, but is definitely a bit dated. nothing jarring that takes you away from it, but it's still good, if they had half stars i'd say 4.5, but they do not.

Performance 5Stars. again if they did this in figure skating type scoring i'd say 4.7-4.8 but they do not. Duregger, does an overal solid job and it's clear crisp sounds. He did a good job of being in the story and drawing in the listener, though on a very few occasions he seemed a bit stilted, but that's just nit picking. very solid job. 5stars

Overall 5Stars. the narration really wins this one in the end and pushes the story up a notch. I'm going to buy a few more from this narrator and we shall see how it goes.

If you like Military Sci-Fi, it's worth the credit.

Are you lookin' for robot action, this'll do it...

The only reason that I was able to finish this book was because it has good bones, so the main action and plotline kept my interest... It certainly wasn't because of the protagonist, Capt. Curt Carson, as I found him to be a thoroughly unlikable character. He might not have been narcissistic, but he certainly loved the sound of his name, and it was used all the freakin' time, all three words strung together, not one, not two, but All Three, ALL the TiMe!!! When he kept his mind on the business of warbots and surviving the military mission, well... that was pretty okay, but as soon as he got to thinking about women, including the female soldiers on his own team, I seriously wanted OUT of this predatory perverts head! Really, don't get me wrong... there's no sex in the book (thankfully), as it's all innuendo, and implied, but that alone was uncomfortable enough to make me feel sullied and icky!
Sean Duregger is an okay voice actor, but he mispronounced several words and that would often pull me out of the book...
So for military action that's packed full up with robots, a big thumbs up... but, if you're looking for good character development, and a less chauvinistic overtone, you'll need to go elsewhere for your reading material.

Great story

I love this story. I have read this book 3 or 4 times myself. I have actually read the entire 12 book series multiple times. I do wish that you would audiblize the entire series instead of just the very 1st book to book.

Enjoyable Military Sci-Fi Novel

This is an entertaining military Sci-Fi novel with plenty of robot and infantry combat. It’s interesting to listen to a SciFi book that was written in the 80s, and I think it still holds up fairly well today. The story has an original concept, especially considering when it was written. The military uses robots, piloted by people that nice and safe (for the most part) from far away, using what we would call a sophisticated immersion reality system today. The book generally moves along quickly, and I found myself listening non-stop. The narrator does a good job with all of the characters voices, but there were a few times when he mispronounced words. Overall an enjoyable military sci-fi novel, and I’m looking forward to book two.

A man's world!

This is definitely a manly man's story. For the most part I stayed interested. I occasionally got lost in all the tech details, but I'm sure someone who has been around military would eat this up.
The narrator did an excellent job. His voice is clear and smooth. You can just picture the characters clearly.

Liked it okay

I liked this one well enough, though it wasn't my favorite sci-fi story ever. The premise was interesting, though it kind of dragged even while there was a lot of action. I mean, ultimately, it described a single battle and some events both before and after it. Over 12 hours was too long for what it was. I have enjoyed other works by Mr. Stine better than this one.

Also, I received this as a review copy from the narrator in exchange for an honest review, but unfortunately I have to report that the narration was the weakest part to me. He did okay, but some of the voices weren't very well done in my opinion. Your mileage of course may vary.

Awesome

The story started off very dry but as it went alone you could not stop listening. The wrong very well don and you could not ask for a better narrator he was able to bring each and ever character alive and breathing and also made the listener feel he knew the characters.
I always wonder what it might be like to have a robot army were human could interface with computer and this gave a view of what it could be and at the same time told what could go wrong.
I do recommend this audible and wish the other books in this series was audible also
