Story
Alvin woke in a room that was not his, to discover that he had died and his brain had been bargained off cheaply to pay off someone else’s debt. It did not sit well with him. It didn’t surprise him that even in death, people were still using him for their own purposes. He had never exactly been a good guy, but everyone had their breaking point, and he had found his. The bastards in charge had uploaded his mind into a virtual death game. The whole world could now pay to see him play it and probably die. Regardless, he was not about to wait for death to come for him.

Absolutely Fantastic!!
First let me say that you MUST be a fantasy fan for this book! Second, you HAVE to enjoy sound effects and music while listening to the narration. If either of these are not you cup of tea then don't waste your time. However, if you do enjoy both these things then you really should give this book a chance. This is an epic fantasy and I can't wait to hear the next installment! When the music started then the narration I was trying to place what it was reminding me of, then I read another review that said the Lord of the Rings and I had an "aha" moment. That is exactly what this reminded me of. The narration is absolutely superb! Nigel Peever is totally awesome and makes this excellent story to the next level. Due to his great narration, clear voice, nice cadence and very distinct voices (human and creature both), he truly elevates this story to fantastic! A must listen to those who enjoy an enhanced listening experience! I listened to this in only two sittings!
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Great listen
If you like Lord of the Rings and that line of fantasy books, you'll defiantly enjoy listening to this. It even comes with sound effects and a really good voice performer
who can really get you hooked by the first sentence and is exceptionally good. Shoot, he could probably be Sauron or Gandolf, if he wanted and no one would be the wiser.
So if you get the chance to listen, do so and enjoy.

Beautiful
First off this is a sound enhanced reading. There is music and sound effects to accompany the reading. Peever is EXCELLENT as a narrator as he changes his voice for different characters. His female voice is a bit falsetto for my taste but that's a very small gripe in a fantastically larger picture. If you're not into sound effects and music with your readings then I'd go elsewhere but I will warn you that you will be missing out on a great production.
First for the writing: Jacob Sannox does a great job at writing. There were a few places I would have thought a gifted editor could have tightened up his focus. But I'd also be concerned that an editor would start chopping some of the stuff that makes this writing so brilliant. This is one of those books that stays with you for a long time afterwards. And there are some twists, turns and wtf moments too.
I'd probably describe this as a dark fantasy with some elements of horror? I had to stay up until the early hours to finish it. That's how engrossed I got in the world that Sannox has created. It may start off slow and the beginning felt like it could have used a prequel but I caught up soon enough.
Peever has entered my top ten list of narrators. His ability to grasp accents, voices and ages of characters is truly gifted.
And holy sh*t ... the production. The altered voices of some of the fantasy creatures is imaginative on an epic scale. I think the production and sound effects really made this reading an engrossing listen. You are drawn into a fantasy world by the sound effects. This was an excellent book for this type of production. OH! And the volume of the sound effects is spot on. They didn't drown out the narrator or make the reading difficult to understand.
Highly recommend this audiobook!

A fantastic journey!
I love fantasy novels, and this one was wonderful! It brings you into the world, with enough detail to let your imagination run. Not your typical fantasy story, new fresh ideas! The narration was excellent, I love full production audiobooks, and this one was well done. I look forward to the next book in the series, can’t wait to see where the story goes from here!!

Epic Fantasy
What a wonderful fantasy story! It’s a very entertaining story with a unique twist on the typical good vs evil battle. It’s cleverly written and had me hooked from the beginning. The narration is OFF THE HOOk! Nigel Peever was freaking fantastic! He really brought the story to a whole new level. It has a Lord of The Rings feel to it. The sound effects are expertly done can’t wait for the next book

Wasn't for me
The best part of this book was the narration. Nigel Peever did an excellent job with each of the character voices. My only complaint with the audio is all of the sound effects. I didn't mind them so much and enjoyed it some of the time, but there were times when it got to be a bit much and almost overshadowed the narration. I found myself concentrating more on the sounds than on the narration. The story itself was just too slow. It seemed like it was going nowhere and taking it's sweet time getting there. I gave this a good 4 hours of listening time before I just had to give up. Sadly, I did not finish.

Owning a hard copy and a kindle version of this book should say something of the enjoyment I've had from the start of this series. There's something special to be had from a book that you know is good and get to enjoy again and again. This is excellent fantasy, with wonder, political and social intrigue along with much that is unexpected indeed. I urge you to give this a listen, here and now.

Outstanding can't wait for the second one
Having read the printed version of this book and loved every page, the characters the world it's self and how they interact and shape it. I was keen to listen to a audio recording of it and I was not disappointed, Nigel lends a gravitas to Jacobs work that makes it come alive out of the pages even more and guides you through the story like an old friend.
Can't rate this highly enough.

Very entertaining
I’m not a great fan of listening to books however gave this a go. I’ve previously read the novel as I love good fantasy and had read any Sanox before, however I took this on a recent flight to the states. This book is read so well, the narrator brings the right amount of light and menace to the story. If you like your fantasy give this a try, thoroughly enjoyable.

Man battles Man and the Forest
A saga of warring men and the forest fighting back when it is severely encroached. Matters of the heart and magical fantasy are explored. There is mans inhumanity to man as well his mistreatment of nature. I think the foundations for further tales has been written. The narration, characterization and soundscapes greatly enhance the listening experience.

A great start to the series
Really enjoyed listening to this tale. A well written story and brilliantly told. Nigel has some great character voices and uses moderate sound effects throughout to enhance the atmosphere and intensity of the story.
All in all, I’m looking forward to seeing how the story plays out in the coming books!!
