Publisher's summary

Vainqueur Knightsbane is your average dragon: A giant, fire-breathing lizard who loves to take naps on his golden hoard, kidnap princesses for fun, and make the life of adventurers miserable. Vainqueur's only pleasure in life is to watch his treasure get bigger, one coin at a time.

So when a would-be thief turned unwilling minion tells him about "classes", "levels", and "quests", Vainqueur wonders if maybe, just maybe, he should consider a career change.

After all, why bother hunting monsters for free when you can get paid for it?

Unique POV

I hope the author had as much fun writing this as I did listening to it. I loved this original perspective of a dragon. Great narration, too!

Fun story for the nerd in all of us

it is a very fun story filledd with a lot of references to various RPGs. the main characters are very enjoyable and we even get to have fun with side characters. it is not a very hardcore adventure but if you're looking for something to make you laugh and have a fun read I recommend it. the reader also does a very nice job and the added sound effects are a nice touch.

I think I enjoyed it?

The initial premise is interesting and fun. The story is about Vainqueur the dragon learning about how profitable being an adventurer can be. Vainqueur is fun. He is egotistical & greedy to an highest-level which makes for great commedy. His compainion Victor is bland guy who just wants to find a girl friend and not die.

To summarize this tale I'd call it ammusing. I laughed at many times. My problem is its going no place. Some books I feel like the author is just making things up as they go. This one feels like the author is recording a D&D session in book form.

Apparrently its in a genre called litRPG which I did not know existed until now. Apparrently the genre is about people who die in our world and get reincarnated in game world. Or at least a world that follows the rules of games in real life. For example people have stats and easily check them. Usually it plays heavily into power fantasy which the character constantly trying to level up. Vainqueur's constant quest for more power and money is the driving force of the plot afterall. After doing research I discovered this is part of an on going webseries. Since the overarching plot is minimal I assume the only way it will end is with one or both of the characters becoming level 100 and becoming gods.

I took a few points off the performance as the voice used for the dragon seems to change even within the same scene. Sometimes its played up highly for effects and can be off putting then when a moment later the effects are not used.

It relies on cliff hangers to keep you comming back. I think I enjoyed it, but I'm not entirely sure why.

Funny

That was pretty funny. I was surprised that the dragons character changed at all during this book but I am glad it did.

Interesting and new

I love stories that have non-human main characters. It makes for a very refreshing story, and using a Dragon just makes it all the more interesting. It was funny to see the culture behind all dragons motives and their belief that they are immortal and all powerful. One of my favorite lines was "Death is just a birth defect".

Overall, I felt the narration was fantastic. Great range for both males, females, and other monsters/creatures. There was a clear distinction between them all and each felt unique. However, I do need to note that there were several noticeable issues where the voice for Vainqueur was mixed up. Sometimes his lines were spoken with Vic's voice, and sometimes it was a completely different "Dragon" voice. Not sure what happened with the editing, but that being said, it wasn't enough to affect the quality of the narration, or the experience of the book.
