Meet Threadbare. He is 12 inches tall, full of fluff, and really, really bad at being a hero.

Magically animated and discarded by his maker as a failed experiment, he is saved by a little girl. But she's got problems of her own, and he might not be able to help her.

Fortunately for the little golem, he's quick to find allies, learn skills, gain levels, and survive horrible predicaments. Which is good, because his creator has a whole lot of enemies …

Warning: Contains profanity and violence.

LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

Though it seems to start slow and small with one tiny little bear and tiny little bear problems, it's really is the perfect speed to grow a character who begins the story as a newborn. Threadbare's progression is perhaps the most human of any character I've run across in years. Choices are well defined and believable, the challenges all require him to work to win, and the stages of development are both charming and humorous. Work it baby!

This blends so many interesting elements. You have the litrpg style of leveling up and experiencing a game-like atmosphere all from the the curious viewpoint of a little animated teddy bear. Tim Gerard Reynolds does an incredible job at narrating this thoroughly captivating story.

From the very first moment the little guy gets animated to the thrilling and sad end, I was enthralled. I thoroughly recommend this one. One word of caution: I almost played this one for my young daughter but there are a few instances of naughty language so listen first and decide if it’s appropriate.

I would definitely recommend this Paddington Bear meets Lord of the Rings style fantasy to anyone who is still young at heart. It makes me look at my daughter’s “Beah” in a whole new light.

Unique take on the RPG fantasy novel genre

This book was a lot of fun. It started off a bit slow, but once the story got rolling, it was a lot of fun. Stat gains felt meaningful, and Threadbare felt like he grew from them. The story is told from Threadbare's perspective, but the support characters are developed as well. I liked the dungeon crawling, but I will say that some more of the repeated stat gains did get a little repetitious when multiple stats went up and it takes a minute or more to get back to the story. There was an occasional stat gain that did feel jarring as well. Tim Gerard Reynolds did a wonderful job telling the story. I appreciated the fact that he used a separate voice for stat updates. Overall, this book has a lot of charm and it's really fun, but if you're not familiar with LitRPG, it could be jarring, and if you don't like puns, this could be a turn-off. We're looking forward to our next adventure with Threadbare and company.

A Fantastic tale

This is a tounge and cheek look at the LitRPG stories. Excellent world building, interesting secondary characters and a lovable hero, charisma 10 points. (Although the story felt complete there is a slight cliffhanger ending, to lead into the next book. )

Finally, an intelligent, fun, engaging, unique LitRPG book. Really took me by surprise, absolutely unexpected delight. The slow but determined progression of THREADBARE and his family is just a joy to experience. AWESOME!

Just what I needed.
If you like litrpg and adventure books you're going to like this one.
The most unlikely hero you'll enjoy because he's so adorable ;-)

A real credit to the genre. Highly recommended. I have many audiobooks in this genre and this is A new favourite. Charming, innovative. No spoilers, but there are plenty of laughs, many chuckles, and a couple of tears.

I loved this book. it took a little bit to get into it but once it started I couldn't stop. It left on a cliffhanger so I had to get the next book and then I had to get the next one and now I'm about to get the fourth.

Threadbare is a completely engaging main character of this LitRPG book, which is different from all other LitRPG books I have read (and I have plowed through many in the past three-four years). The world building is about perfect, the character building clearly is perfect, and the leveling/professions/skills element is delightful, and not at all "too much". I'm not one for battle scenes, but the initial one with the cat was engrossing, and subsequent ones were more interesting than normal, in this type of book. I was also fortunate to listen to the book, narrated by Tim Gerrard Reynolds--perfection in narration. Well-done, real book candy, and a perfect distraction, when I really needed one.

Completely engaging (and adorable *hugs*)
