Dumb MC and bad action.

So, I hesitate to call these books bad, cause they’re not, but the MC and the action in the these books are just terrible.

Let’s start with the MC, Melvin is the most uncreative, unobservant, and dumb MC that I’ve had the displeasure of reading/listening about, he doesn’t pick up on obvious hints throughout the books, all the fights he’s in consists of him darting in attacking once or twice then spacing out until someone yells his name forcing him to use some undiscovered random advantage/skill the author has decided to give to him, speaking of these powers, he has all of these unique and interesting powers that he refuses to explore in a creative way. All the characters around him have offensive options but in all of the books I’ve listened to so far he’s only developed 1 offensive option.

The amount of foreshadowing in these books is kinda exhausting at times, and yet Melvin only seems to pick up on it 3 out 10 times. It got to the point that I just assumed that any action or problem they had the author would come up with some contrived way to pull the MC out of it.

The action as I said before is just Melvin spacing out then the author making some random sht up. I’d also like to say that if you have an issue with young characters this book is centered around 15/16 year olds, now ordinarily when characters are young I don’t mind as long as the books are good, but I swear the author hasn’t spoken to a teenagers before because these characters act like they are 12 years old, it’s infuriating at times.

Overall if you ignore the MC’s idiocy and the action these books are not to bad, but don’t expect a well written experience.

Entertaining story, worth the credit

“System School” offers great value for money, providing 67.5 hours of entertainment for just one Audible credit. The story blends traditional video game RPG elements with the magical world of Harry Potter, creating a unique and engaging experience. There’s an overarching love theme that remains tasteful and avoids the raunchiness found in some other stories.

While the maturity and responsibilities of the young characters can sometimes stretch believability, the narrative remains compelling. The characters show significant growth throughout the series without delving too deeply into stat point allocation, which keeps the story accessible and enjoyable. Overall, “System School” is well worth the Audible credit for fans of LitRPG and magical adventures.

The Angst

Omg I knew this was ya going in but literally half of every single chapter is tween romance bs. Kissing and handholding and death pacts. It's what a 13 year old boy would imagine his first relationship would be like if he had a white knight complex. It's insufferable.
MC and everyone around him are dumb as rocks. I guess it's to try and balance his arbitrary op powers but it's written in the worst, most boring way possible.
I can see why it's was so cheap, abandoned and hidden from my library.

Narrator did an excellent job

Slow starting but picks up quickly after about an hour. Narration was good. Entertaining and overall worth the listen.

Good Value

A good saga of fantasy and well worth the single credit I spent. I'd recommend it to any who have the credit to check out this work.
