Bewitching story!

Twisted by Time is a magical trip to the past for an encounter with the forces of nature and of sheer evil. Desi Campbell and her friends are witches and warlocks, living in discussing the situation with the demons becoming more active in their city in Wisconsin. Her boyfriend's abuela has a home in Miami that she'd like them to use. They decide to go to Miami for spring break and she tries to cast a spell with the grimoire to get there. Her spell misfires and she finds herself in Cuba during the Spanish American war, but that's not the only war going on at the moment. The demons are using the war as a front for conducting their own magical war. Their leader, El Diablo, is a 2nd tier demon and he's trying to destroy every coven, witch and warlock, as well as any other magical creature. Desi isn't alone for long as she meets a few witches and warlocks who are actively evacuating some of their injured coven. Alba, Elena, Ramon, Manuel and Oliver help her to understand where she is in time and what is happening. Oliver is an American soldier, sent to Cuba to help the Americans win the war. He witnesses the power she holds in her hands and was immediately drawn to her.  Elena, a young witch, is jealous that Oliver is interested in Desi and warns her to stay away. Successfully, they work through the city, banishing or killing every enemy that gets in their way until El Diablo. He holds a special power over Oliver that Desi can't ever begin to recognize. This is a marvelous story with an explosive plot and characters that jump right off the pages! The narration is impeccably done by Rebecca Winder and I have to commend her Spanish accent as excelente! Truly bewitching!

Good Supernatural Time Travel

Overall I liked this story and how the author mixed history and the paranormal. I like how magic is used and portrayed and the world building was on point. It took me a bit to like Desi - honestly she annoyed me so bad for awhile I almost stopped but I am glad I stuck with it becasue she grew on me. The narrator did a fabulous job bringing the story and characters to life.

Really Enjoyed This Book!

This is a good listen as you have romance, witchcraft and time travel. This is young adults so they get up to all kinds of mischief. The Narrator, Rebecca Winder, makes the story come to life. She has such a range of emotion and a different voice for each character. Her male voices don’t sound fake or forced.
The combination of a great story that is well presented makes this a great book to listen to!

Easy listen, tame romance

This is the first book I have read/listened to by this author and I’d like to listen to more in this series. It is a very easy, uncomplicated listen. The magic is a little unique in that the witches talents are in one of four areas of ability. I did kind of roll my eyes a bit at the typical cauldron ingredients like bat guano, mandrake root, pigs feet, eyes of newts. Magical spells are rhymes. I liked the explanation of the demons being werewolves, vampires, etc that were witches turned to black magic. Desi was traumatized by the death of her parents and no longer wishes to be a part of the witch community. She just wants to live a non magical life. In a spell gone wrong she finds herself in 1898. As she adapts to her surroundings and meets more people of that time, she learns her arrival there is not totally an accident. I liked the connections between the present and past. I’m curious where this series will go.——-
This is the first book I have listened to by this narrator ( Rebecca Winder ) and I would like to listen to another. She has a style I enjoyed. She performs rather than just reads the book. The voices she’s chosen for each character works well and I was drawn into the story by her narration. ——-

There are no explicit sex scenes, or described violence, or swearing. So far, the romance side of the book is extremely tame and more of just an acknowledgment of attraction. ——-

Really good

I really enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to more of these characteristics and this author.
Desi is a complete mess bit she learns quickly and adapts to the mess she made with a spell gone wrong. I hope she and Oliver go forever in tone in the next installment. I want her to blow his mind with the culture of her time.
Narration by Rebecca Winder was excellent.

Great start to new series by promising new author!

I chose this book because I enjoy the narrator in other books. It looks like this may be author R.L. Perez's first novel. I have to say, I'm very impressed!

Dezi is a witch, reluctant to embrace her culture, heritage, and the burden of power. The loss of her parents in the line of duty has understandably soured her against witchcraft. So she sets out to escape her destiny, inadvertently propelling herself back in time. To Cuba, and the chaos of the Spanish American War, where she has no choice but to embrace her destiny, train her powers, and help fight a demon lord who is targeting witches and warlocks to siphon-off their powers.

I really enjoyed this story. I've only started listening to YA titles recently, so I could be wrong, but I found this story delightfully unique. Dezi is a complicated and at times frustrating heroine. You want to shake her at times, when she is hard on Oliver (her champion and potential love interest). But she is young and has a traumatic past, so it's understandable. But it's great to see her rise to the challenges and tasks at hand. I look forward to seeing how her character grows as the series progresses.

As usual, Rebecca Winder does a great job bringing a large cast of characters to life, and delivering an engaging performance. I don't speak Spanish, but she seemed to rattle-off a good amount of it very well!

I definitely recommend this author and this audiobook.

don't use a shortcut!

Desi wants to go to Miami, and figures using a bit of magic to get there can't do any harm......so she gets transported to cuba instead....a few hundred years ago aswell....that will teach her to try and take a shortcut using magic. if that isn't enough now she is on a high level demons radar, and he is not going to give her up without a fight. loved this fresh story. had a bit of trouble in the beginning focusing on everything that was going on. but as soon as I got a handle on what was going on I really got into the story.

I received this book free for an honest review.]
Desi tries to cast a spell to go to Miami for spring break but something goes wrong and she ends up in Cuba in 1898.
Not only does she have the Spanish-American civil war to worry about she also has demons of which a powerful demon lord has set his sight on her . Really enjoyed the story and looking forward to the next book.
