Story
When I moved to Prosper Woods, California, a couple of weeks ago, I’d had big plans for a quiet life. Let’s just say, things haven’t exactly turned out the way I expected they would. For one thing, as new sheriff, I hadn’t planned on investigating a murder the day after my arrival. For another thing, no one told me supernatural creatures existed. I didn’t believe it at first, but when Vincent Lasco suddenly smiled at me with a mouth full of fangs, things got interesting.

Story
Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

“You are the savior of mankind” are the last words I ever expected to hear while nibbling on fries. The thing is, I’m not mankind saving material. I don’t even have magic (and just found out it exists). I’m the most boring, normal(ish) human ever. Suddenly, I’m being tossed right into the middle of a fight that started years before I was even born, and then I get partnered up with Alastair, a quirky magical Guardian. He is rather attractive and sweet when he’s not into the whole “woe is me, I can’t let myself fall in love with you” nonsense.

My whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate - or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack, whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met - laidback and quick to laugh, caring, and protective. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter, because it seems like someone wants us dead.

Smart men never dabble with demons. I never claimed to be smart, but at least, I’m powerful enough to control them. When I bound Havoc to me nearly 300 years ago, I never realized how difficult he’d make my life, although “accidentally” lighting him on fire every now and then does bring a smile to my face. Havoc is handsome, mysterious, and somehow, my closest companion, even if we don’t always get along.

Getting into the vampire-only detective unit was the easy part. What’s going to be more difficult is dealing with my new partner - an ancient vampire who keeps threatening to eat me. The unit has never had a human in it. Marcus - or, as I like to call him: Fangy McFangface - would really prefer to keep it that way. He’s grumpy, short-tempered, and broody, but I have a way with words, and I know he’s starting to like me, even if he swears he’s not.

Publisher's Summary
My name is Romeo Harmon, and I’m the new sheriff of Prosper Woods, a small California town smack dab in the middle of the sequoia forest. People around here tell me the town hasn’t changed a whole hell of a lot since power lines and telephones were installed. It’s a quaint place with a movie theater that shows the old classics, a saloon with a decent choice of beer, a general store with a grumpy old coot behind the till, a gas station with a pimply young mechanic, and a bed and breakfast that attracts tourists and vacation money.
I think I’m gonna like it here.
My name is Vincent Lasco. I’ve searched a long time to find a new place to settle down. Because of what I am, I need to pull up stakes and start over every 20 years or so - before people realize that I don’t age anymore. Prosper Woods has everything a man like me could ever want. Though there aren’t many humans, it doesn’t really matter. I’m so old, I don’t need to eat very often, and there’s no reason to expose myself to the locals whom I hope to call friends some day.
I think I’m gonna like it here.
There are newcomers in town. Prosper Woods is a nice place, as long as you’re passing through. I wonder how long these folks will stay once they find out what’s really going on here. Somehow....
I don’t think they’re gonna like it here.
True Knight is the prequel to the Prosper Woods Chronicles and includes an excerpt from True Mate, the first book in the new series.

A New Series To Fall In Love With!
I am so excited for this brand new series from Patricia Logan.
I was very fortunate to read this story before it came out and the audio version brought the wonderful story to a different level. With John Solo’s excellent narration, Prosper Wood is as quaint, as magical as I imagined it to be.
Romeo and Vincent are two characters that will steal our hearts. They’re swoon-worthy, chemistry palpable.
Patricia always had a way with her writing that makes you feel a little deeper, with the characters as you’re reading the story. And let’s not even forget the way she writes the most intimate moments between MCs. It’s going to set your Kindle/headphones on fire!
This prequel to the first book of her brand new series is full of intricate but not overwhelming world-building. As the characters are introduced, you can’t help imagine meeting them like you too, have just moved to Prosper Woods.
I absolutely can’t wait for more of this series. It’s going to be another magical adventure! ✨✨✨

Wonderful prequel to an amazing M/M fantasy series
A pack of werewolves, a transplanted vampire, a brand new sheriff, and a batch of the funniest letters to the newspaper editor, the Prosper Woods is off to a wonderful start for those of us loving M/M romance fantasy. Masterfully narrated by John Solo, the colorful characters of the book come to full, vibrant life down to each idiosyncratic accent and speech pattern! We encounter Romeo Harmon who has taken a job as the sheriff in the small California town of Prosper Woods. We are also introduced to Vincent Lasco--a vampire that was turned during the Crusades that relocate to Prosper Woods without doing essential reconnaissance. He has purchased both home and business by the time he realizes he has moved into a small town with sworn enemies in the form of a werewolf pack! However, his cloud has a silver lining in the form of the very handsome sheriff who has just moved into town, too! As is the case with Vincent, some of the locals detect supernatural power emanating from Romeo. But just what kind of paranormal entity is he? Read/listen to find out more! Boy, what a good time!

a whole mess
i really wanted this to be good or at least interesting in concept, and i think it starts out pretty well. but it quickly starts to feel cobbled together out of common cliches and random ideas that aren't well thought out. some of it is just editing; for ex there are a lot of repeated statements. but a lot of it is poor story development. there are a lot of ideas that are introduced and go nowhere or become contradictory a chapter after they've appeared. it happened so often that by the end i wasn't really listening anymore. John Solo is a great reader as always, but even he couldn't make this sound good.

Excellent intro to a promising new series.👍🏽
This story is a excellent start to this new series. This is my first time listening to a Patricia Logan story. I must say, I'm very impressed. The building of this new world and storyline is awesome. I love MM paranormal shifters stories. The characters are well developed. You already know John Solo doing the narration was going to be fantastic. He really has a gift in bringing all characters to life. I am soo looking forward to listening to the next story + the complete series. I just hope we'll not be waiting a long time for it. But until then I'm going to check out more of this author work here on adubile. This story, I highly recommend.

a great intro to a new series
This was an excellent intro to the Prosper Woods Chronicles series. It was not what I was expecting and I enjoyed every bit of it. I can’t wait to read the rest. Rome and Vincent are easy to like and I loved all of the quirky characters.
The narrator, John Solo, did an excellent job giving voice to all of the characters.

We found our home in the middle of the sequoia forest
True Knight - Patricia Logan
I haven’t read a lot of Patricia Logan books nonetheless, I really liked listening this little novella which is set up in a small town in the middle of nowhere. When I started listening to it, I actually had no idea what to expect. I thought it was gonna be another serene and comfy small town romamce but boy oh boy, was I wrong.
The explosive and instant attraction and lust between our new resident vampire Vincent and our new sheriff Romeo was just fireworks. They both settled down in this quiet little town thinking this little town can’t be more ordinary. Unbeknownst to them, there’s already a thriving magical community right here in Prosper Woods.
Although this was a novella, this didn’t feel short and rushed. It was well-written with a very intriguing plot and two very likewble characters. Plus, John Solo is one of my very favorite narrators so this is a huge plus for me. I’m really interested to see what Prosper Woods will offer in the upcoming novels.

Interesting short story
This is a prequel- a brief intro into this magical/supe world. It does have a good taste of the beginning of Rome and Vincent’s love story. It was a bit weird that Rome, having never known he was magical, had barely any reaction- whether good or bad- to finding out he could shift. John Solo is not my favorite narrator, as I sometimes his characters are indistinguishable by their voices alone.

The Vampire Knight and the Sheriff
Just about every book I’ve read recently has been a paranormal, and most of those have been shifter books. When the opportunity arose to dip my toe (or jump in completely) to Prosper Woods, I leapt at the chance. Patricia Logan is a new-to-me author but she’s been around for a long time. I figured deciding to listen to these books was a no-brainer.
Romeo has recently left the big city of LA to move up to Northern California. Prosper Woods is near the famous Sequoia Forest which I have always wanted to visit. Now, he’s gone from being a small fish in a big pond to a huge fish in a small pond. Being a sheriff will do that. He’s in for the shock of his life, though, because Prosper Woods is no ordinary town.
Vincent is a new resident in town. He has to move every twenty years or so because eventually people notice he isn’t aging. What began as a life as a knight seven hundred years ago has carried him through a lot of history. He sets up an antiques store as a cover and has a basement built to suit his…unusual needs. To him, Prosper Woods is just another stop in his eternal life.
When Romeo and Vincent meet, there are instant sparks. Like, major chemistry. And although Vincent senses Romeo is different, the lawman is positively clueless. Until things come to a head and all is revealed. And I won’t give away the biggest secret because I so did not see that coming and I want other listeners to have the same ‘wow’ moment. I mean, I thought I’d seen it all – I was wrong.
I’m excited I’ve been able to pick up the series and am listening back-to-back and just before I move on, I want to say John Solo did an excellent job of narrating. He nailed the California accent while also managing Vincent’s European one.

A wonderful new series!
This book is the prequel to a new series and I enjoyed a lot the format the author used to introduce us to the town and the characters. It was funny to read the letters to the editor and how they were related to the events in every chapter in a twisted way. Of course, some surprises, sweet moments and few angst made everything even better. Now, what was the cherry on top, was to discover that this amazing story was narrated by John Solo. As a huge fan of his work, I just loved so much how beautifully he read this captivating prequel. So wonderful!

A prequel to a paranormal romance
Romeo is new to Prosper Woods, as a sheriff he is getting his bearings. Vincent, a vampire, has found a town to live in peace or so he thinks. It’s a good prequel to a series set in a small town with special inhabitants. Great narration by Mr Solo.

Where the supernaturals come to play
I enjoyed this intriguing start to a new series. Rome thinks he is coming to Prosper Woods (PW) to be the sheriff of a sleepy little town, and that there won't be much excitement. He couldn't be more wrong. All is not as it seems in PW. He meets up with Vincent, who is also new in town, and the attraction is immediate. They end up in bed together, but during the passionate encounter, Rome sees that Vincent has...FANGS?! Cue the freak-out. Yeah, Vincent is a vampire. That is just one of the surprises Rome has coming. Then, there is a dead body, secrets, and plenty of other unusual things going on, and there are some surprises about Rome himself, too. There were a lot of things going on and a lot of information in this prequel, but I liked it, and it really piqued my interest to read the first full book when it comes out. I liked the characters of Rome and Vincent, and all the side characters, too.
John Solo is not my favorite narrator, but this is a personal preference. He does a great job providing unique voices for the characters, but his pacing is a bit too slow for me.
I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

An OK start
The Story: this was an OK start but with a lot happening for a prequel. I was not a fan of the comments regarding Greg, like almost everyone made this type of comment. I hope he gets to show them up.
Roman Vincents relationship was pretty much instant but it was nice to see how they started for the next books to come. I do like that this seems to be a very magical town with many different types of beings.
Unfortunately, I did have a tough time keeping my attention solely on this book.
The Narration: John Solo does and John Solo does and it’s good!!!

Truly Delightful
True Knight is the first book in the Prosper Woods series, and although it’s advertised as a prequel to the series, it felt more like a standard first book setting the scene. I highly recommend starting the series with this book.
I love the Prosper Woods series, it is a paranormal series with a Nightvale flair, mixed with mystery and action. True Knight introduces us to Romeo, the new sheriff, and the magnificent Vincent, a vampire who just moved to town. Romeo and Vincent have an instalove from the moment their eyes meet. The attraction and chemistry between them is undeniable, which leads to some extremely hot and steamy scenes. Although this book was short, it immediately grabbed my attention and kept me engaged and interested in the series. My favorite part is the detailed and interesting the worldbuilding.
The audiobook was narrated by John Solo who does a fantastic job. The voices he does for all the characters are perfect, and I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

Made me want to read more in this series!
True Knight is the first book I’ve read by Patricia Logan. I’ve heard really great things about her writing so I jumped at the opportunity to get a review copy of this audiobook. The good things I heard were all true; I loved this book.
The writing is great and the audio performance by John Solo is a pleasure to listen to (no surprise there, he’s on my list of favorite audiobook performers). This story introduces a lot of different magical creatures (some good and some not so good) and the start of the romance between Rome and Vincent.
While I wouldn’t say that this book has a cliffhanger exactly there are definitely some issues left unresolved. There’s trouble brewing in Prosper Woods and I’m looking forward to finding out more.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Enthralling and Compelling with Twists.
MM paranormal romance. A fantastic introduction to Prosper Woods and it's inhabitants, old and new. I was quickly drawn into the story and loved the quirky humour that popped up throughout. Romeo has just moved there to become Sheriff and is totally unaware of the paranormals that call Prosper Woods and the surrounding area home, indeed there is alot he is unaware of. He meets fellow newcomer Vincent and they both feel drawn to each other but Vincent quickly realises he's chosen badly when deciding to settle in Prosper Woods. Great narration by John Solo.

Great series intro
Really enjoyed this prequel story that lets us get to know the town of Prosper Woods and the people who live there. Romeo is trying to settle in as the new sheriff and thinks he's got it made in the simple little town. Boy is he wrong! His connection with Vincent (an absolutely wonderful character) is instant and life altering. It's good they have a connection because there are villains around about to make living in Prosper Woods very interesting. I wish lots more authors would do these intro novellas to introduce their worlds to us before major series start. John Solo is right on point with his performance here. Loved the electricity he brought to Romeo's and Vincent's connection.
