Strange things are happening in Prosper Woods, California. Ever since moving here a few months ago, my life has turned upside down. Some things have been amazing, like falling head over heels for Vincent Lasco, a gorgeous 700-year-old vampire. Other things have been weirder than I could ever imagine.

Story
Some people are born lucky. Then there’s me, destined to be loved by the man who knows my darkest secret. My gift has followed me my entire life—the ability to see the threads of fate. I can see the red thread tying together two people destined to love one another. But my gift has another side to it. A darker side. I can also see a simple black thread tied to the fingers of those who aren’t aware of it, connecting them to the person destined to kill them. And when I look down at my own finger, I can see the red thread stretched over to Bishop King.

When you can talk to ghosts, things are bound to get spirited. The ghosts have been there since before I can remember. When I was a kid, they doted on me, but as I got older, they got more demanding. I’ve spent my whole life seeing and talking to dead people and trying to pretend I’m not, because the living just don’t understand. Nobody wants to be around the freak who claims to see ghosts. Until I go to Mannix Estate.

My whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate - or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack, whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met - laidback and quick to laugh, caring, and protective. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter, because it seems like someone wants us dead.

“You are the savior of mankind” are the last words I ever expected to hear while nibbling on fries. The thing is, I’m not mankind saving material. I don’t even have magic (and just found out it exists). I’m the most boring, normal(ish) human ever. Suddenly, I’m being tossed right into the middle of a fight that started years before I was even born, and then I get partnered up with Alastair, a quirky magical Guardian. He is rather attractive and sweet when he’s not into the whole “woe is me, I can’t let myself fall in love with you” nonsense.

Smart men never dabble with demons. I never claimed to be smart, but at least, I’m powerful enough to control them. Publisher's Summary
True Mate is the first book in the Prosper Woods Chronicles, but don't miss True Knight, the incredible prequel to the series!
When I moved to Prosper Woods, California, a couple of weeks ago, I’d had big plans for a quiet life. Let’s just say, things haven’t exactly turned out the way I expected they would. For one thing, as new sheriff, I hadn’t planned on investigating a murder the day after my arrival. For another thing, no one told me supernatural creatures existed. I didn’t believe it at first, but when Vincent Lasco suddenly smiled at me with a mouth full of fangs, things got interesting.
Quiet small-town life indeed!
The moment I decided to take Sheriff Romeo Harmon home for a roll in the sheets, I knew hiding my true nature was a huge mistake. Then again, things never turn out the way I expect. The simple life of anonymity I’d hoped to have in Prosper Woods has blown up in my face in the most poetic and spectacular way. Not only that, the guy isn’t even aware that he has secrets of his own. How a guy could have lived all his life not knowing what he was, seems nearly impossible but in his case, I know it’s true.
Supernaturals are everywhere!
The town of Prosper Woods has a couple of new residents who at first glance, seem very unsuited for small town life. Before long though, I realized they were right for the town...probably the only right thing about this weird place. Surprisingly, they fit right in.
Things are about to get interesting!

True Hit!!!
We're picking up right where True Knight left us, so it's Vincent and Romeo and their inarguable chemistry right off the bat. The way Patricia wrote these two, it reminds me so much of Jarrett and Thayne, the bond between them palpable between pages.
It's a treat seeing Romeo grow into his new life in Prosper Woods, he's navigating life as a powerful & rare shifter along with his duties and responsibilities as a new sheriff in the supernatural-filled town. Not only that, he's also hopelessly irrefutably in love with his lover, Vincent - a warrior vampire. Vincent patiently guides Romeo in mastering his new-found powers and shifter abilities. While the threat that is Floyd, the Alpha of the werewolf pack, is hanging over Romeo and Vincent's heads, another threat waltzes in. More vampires - vicious and so unlike Vincent.
This book contains a lot of heat, because Romeo and Vincent, it also contains dramatic confrontations, an awesome fight scene, and some ghostly activities. Things are sure getting interesting in Prosper Woods, events are unfolding, things are evolving.
We also get to know more about the residents of Prosper Woods, specially the characters we met in True Knight. I love that Patricia gave us her signature character cameos but with a humorous twist, it left me questioning "was that really THEM?".
You know it's a great book when you don't want it to end. That pretty much sums up this audiobook. I want more. Between Patricia Logan's amazing storytelling, dynamic and colorful characters and epic world-building, making us all want to move to Prospect Woods plus John Solo's masterful narration, we are all left wanting for more of this series and it couldn't come soon enough!

Bloody Marvelous, loved it!
The cheeky and steamy performance by John Solo fulfilled my prediction of the start of a stunningly enjoyable paranormal series; Prosper Woods Chronicles by the crafty Patricia Logan. My expectation of a novel filled with humor and originality was fulfilled many times over. So many characters, each with their own personality that matches a shifter animal. Absolutely bloody stunning!
The dramatic confrontational scenes and the conflict within the local werewolves pack, plus the introduction of unseen spiritual forces, a little boy called Blue, helped to keep the plot interesting which created a captivating synopsis. This narrator is a master of pacing and dramatic flair, he will carry listeners through the many layers of this story, while it feels like you are sitting in a movie theatre, eating popcorn, and watching a paranormal rom-com with a boisterous crowd.
I absolutely recommend this series. The characters are vibrant and it’s uniquely smartly plotted.

Patricia Logan cant write these books fast enough!
Patricia Logan sure knows how to get a reader thoroughly hooked! With an absolutely brilliant start to the Prosper Woods Chronicles in the form of 'True Knight', the writer keeps us wanting more with 'True Mate'--the official first book of the series. Brilliantly narrated by John Solo, I was delighted to revisit this incredible world where shifters of every kind exist. There are new characters on the scene and new revelations from old friends. We have the absolute joy of seeing Sheriff Romeo Harmon grow into his powers as he is advised by his vampire lover Vincent Lasco. It's delightful to see their relationship grow and their love blossom. The sheriff's shocking realization of the supernatural beings that call Prosper Woods home is second only to his mortification that everyone knows 1) what kind of being he is and 2) that he is intimately involved with the male vampire Vincent Lasco! I find it HILARIOUS!!! But Romeo and Vincent have more to worry about and manage than small-town gossip. The local wolf pack's leader is dangerous as all hell and a group of very old vampires has decided to visit Vincent at Prosper Woods to claim something they shouldn't have! Ms. Logan is an especially clever writer in keeping her readers engaged without boredom, too much drama, or an over-emphasis on sexual intimacy. This story, like so much of her other work, is well balanced for the sub-genre. In this particular work, there is an amazing blend of scenes: we get an exciting thrill, then a warmly tender moment, then an incredible reveal, etc. She's also good at ensuring a resolution to a sub-plot or two after scaring us silly with the introduction of another mind-blowing sub-plot. It's all so good, it positively wicked! Darn her! 😁 I can't wait for the next book of this terrific series!

True mate
I love getting more of Romeo and Vincent. The multiple PoVs help to understand the different characters so much more and why they make the choices they do. Vincent ends up having to make a huge decision rashly some he doesn’t have time to do anything else. And Rom and him have to work through the new restrictions. I really loved the characters and can’t wait to find out what else is in store for our characters. Some of the side characters are having some great character development along with our amazing main characters.

Mixed feelings
This is one of those books that's tough for me to review. I liked the overall plot, characters and paranormal world. It made me laugh out loud at times and I got caught up in the suspense at times.
BUT there were little things that lacked in the execution, at least for me. There were too many contradictions, things said to be one way and then the opposite happening without acknowledging that it didn't follow the rules, or contrasted directly with what a character had expressed before. Conversely, there were a few times that people said, (or thought), the same thing, as if they hadn't before. And the timeline felt confusing at times to me, in that Romeo and Vincent were still very new in town, very new to each other, with Romeo very new to knowing of (and being personally part of) a supernatural world, but they behaved as if more time had passed, and seemed to refer to events and activities as if more time had passed, before going back & saying it had only been a few weeks and how everything was still so new.
Despite some weaknesses, I still want to know how some unsolved mysteries work out in the next book. Although some issues were resolved, the book does end on a cliffhanger of sorts. The aspect of the story I was most interested in seeing to its conclusion appears to unfold further in the next book. Sigh.
As for the audio narration, I enjoyed it. I was not aware that people in that region of California speak with a bit of a twang, almost Midwestern-ish, and thought perhaps it was an odd choice for some of the characters, (though not all have it). I Googled though & it appears that there are areas of California with an accent resembling the one some characters spoke with through John Solo's narration. (It might not be 100% accurate, but my knowledge of California accents has expanded. You learn something new every day.)

I didn't want to stop listening!
This book picks up pretty much after the events of the prequel True Knight. Sheriff Romeo is a unicorn shifter trying to figure out how to use his newfound powers with the help of his vampire lover Vincent. While things are still tense with the local werewolf pack, the remains of the old sheriff are found. Then Vincent gets a threat from some vampires from his past causing him to make a pretty huge decision. Ghosts are popping up now too. Never a dull day in Prosper Woods. I didn't want to stop listening this was so much fun. There are tons of surprising revelations and action, in and out of the bedroom. John Solo is truly a treasure. His ability to bring life to each character is incredible.

Enjoyed it
📖 Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters, interesting story.
Characters (both main and secondary) are entertaining, the residents of Prosper woods are interesting and well written and the dynamic between Rome and Vincent works well. This has me invested enough to pursue the rest of the series.
🎧 Narrator comment: I enjoy John Solo as a narrator, his performance isn't flawless, and there were times I nudged up the native speed to 1.1x speed, but for the most part he has good cadence, inflections and intonations, he has a good variety of character accents and it was easy to distinguish the characters from each other. Overall an enjoyable performance.

Pretty good story and narration
I have already read almost everything by Patricia Logan and listened to some audio books and therefore I was very curious about "True Mate".
Although I have not yet listened to "True Knight", but I will catch up as soon as possible.
Patricia Logan has a great writing style, as it is very captivating and entertaining.
I really liked the story of Romeo and Vincent, I liked both characters from the beginning. However, there are other secondary characters that are also very likable.
Romeo is the new sheriff in the small town of Prosper Woods, which reveals some incredible things. He falls in love with Vincent, a vampire, and he's not the only supernatural being in town.
While Romeo is still learning to deal with his abilities, it's not just one threat that builds.
The book has everything a good book needs: suspense, action, fight scenes, drama, a bit of supernatural, and heat and romance. You can practically feel the attraction between Romeo and Vincent.
Patricia Logan knows how to totally captivate her readers. I want more and am now eagerly awaiting the next audiobook in this series!
John Solo did a great job bringing the characters to life. I really liked his way of reading the story and finding a distinct voice for each character. He also has a great sense of drama and always has the right pace while reading.
True Mate is stunning and absolutely recommended!

Really good!
4.25 Stars!
First things first, you definitely need to read, or better yet, listen to True Knight before reading True Mate.
I really enjoyed the continuation of Rome and Vincent's story. They are very well-suited for one another and I'm really liking how they're settling in as a couple. I also liked seeing how Rome is in better control of his 'powers' now.
Also, you need to know that even if the book ends in a HFN, there's a bit of a cliffhanger, or rather, several issues that were left unresolved, which was a bit disappointing. I really liked that we got to see Greg come into his own and I hope we'll get to see more of him and Sam in the next book(s) in the series.
The audiobook was very enjoyable. John Solo did a great job bringing the characters to life. I think one of my favorite parts of the audiobooks has been Mr. Solo reading the letters that the Prosper Town residents submit to the paper, it's so much fun!
Overall, the book was interesting, fast-paced, intriguing, and I'm already looking forward to more. I have no trouble recommending it.

The Sheriff and his Vampire True Mate
So, this first full book in Patricia Logan's new Paranormal Romance series did not disappoint. This is a great next step in her brand new series Prosper Woods Chronicles.
My favourite part is still the letters to the editor at the beginning of each chapter...totally hilarious!
John Solo does a great job of bringing this cast of diverse characters to life. So many different shifters and other magical or other paranormal type creatures!
I can't wait for the next one! Highly recommended Paranormal MM Romance.

A continuation of the adventure
I’m back in Prosper Woods. Our new sheriff Romeo is investigating a murder and he’s starting to sense there’s something different about his co-workers. Perhaps about most people in town. And then there’s his boyfriend who’s also new in town. A few people have already discerned Vincent’s true nature and to say they’re not happy about it is an understatement.
But this is Prosper Woods where anything can happen.
Things seem fairly normal – or as normal as they can be when surrounded by supes. Romeo has discovered – quite spectacularly – that he’s a supe. His true nature was never revealed when he was a cop in LA but up here in Northern California? Surrounded by all that nature? He’s in the know now.
More characters were properly introduced in this book, and although I love Sally the deputy, it’s Precious who stole my heart. And made me laugh.
I learned that werewolves have to shift during a full moon – something I didn’t know. But I’m still newer in the paranormal realm.
Romeo has his work cut out for him just as Vincent’s past shows up and things get chaotic in his life. There’s plenty of action inside and outside the bedroom and certainly enough to keep my interested. I can’t wait for the conclusion of the series.
John Solo narrates these books and I think he was a great choice to helm this series. Okay, off to the next book.

Book 1 was also read by John Solo! Yay!
Mr Solo is one of my favorite voice actors in the genre and it is always a treat to hear his smooth and charismatic voice reading a interesting book like this one. I enjoyed a lot its dynamic, how fluid and entertaining was the intrícate plot and all the wonderful characters, sweet surprises, heartwarming moments and the original paranormal twists. I recommend to read first the prequel. it helped me a lot to understand the main situations and how the world is built in this series. A great book masterfully narrated! Yay!

Vincent and his mate!
In this first book Vincent and Romeo’s relationship solidified and there are surprises. Romeo is a special one and he finds he is not the only one. New interesting characters appear as the town finds there’s crime around and wolves seem to be involved. Great world building. The Prosper chronicles are an interesting touch. Meanwhile, Vincent and Romeo turn into a power couple.

Enjoyable continuation
First off, you REALLY need to read or listen to the prequel True Knight before you read/listen to True Mate or you will not have all the background for the story and characters.
I really enjoyed this continuation of this series about a town full of paranormal beings. The world-building is fantastic and the characters are great and varied (witches, vampires, werewolves. ghosts, different types of shifters, and others). I liked the different POVs. It’s not just the MCs. There is input from other characters that adds to the overall picture. This is great when there is mystery and secrets/unknowns that haven’t been revealed to all yet. There is a lot going on in this book, and it’s fast-paced and engaging. I can see why the author wrote a separate prequel to provide some of the background. There are still some loose ends at the end of this book, so I am looking forward to he next book in the series.
The narration is good, with distinct voices for the different characters. I love the delivery of the little snippets from the town chronicle.
I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
