Publisher's summary

He thinks wildfires are his greatest enemy, but he doesn’t see the historic hurt smoldering inside himself.

Fires have shaped Prentice's life: a childhood tragedy, several devastating wildfires close to home, and structure blazes he's battled with the fire department. His goal is to minimize wildfire devastation in Garnet...and earn his dad’s grudging approval.

Out of the blue, he meets Jessie, a smart young lady with a beautiful smile and secrets of her own. She sees the unresolved family conflict smoldering in him and offers a fresh view of how to live his life. When wildfire hits his hometown, many residents are unprepared.

Will he try to save the world by himself, or will he ask for help as the flying embers rain down on him?

Interesting and informative ... a tad preachy

This was an interesting, informative, and compelling book ... but kind of preachy at times.

I recommend this book for a good story about a troubled firefighter and the fires he tries to deal with. However, as it's designed, it's also a wealth of non-fiction tips on reducing wildfire risk. So, I also recommend it for the wealth of information gained.

Due to its interesting mix, it did sometimes come off as preachy on wildfire prevention ... and occasionally on dealing with emotions and such.

I applaud Lisa for the courage and dedication to do her own audio. The audio was clear, upbeat, and the characters were generally well differentiated. There were a few spots with minor technical audio glitches (repeats, minor background noise, volume variations between some chapters), but these were minor and didn't detract.
